CUMMINS FIRST IN THE SUMMER SHOWDOWN

Haubstadt, IN – June 11, 2016 – Kyle Cummins collected the $2,000 in prize money by winning the “Summer Showdown” for the Midwest Sprint Car Series at Tri-State Speedway Saturday night. The Princeton, IN, driver took the lead on lap 10 and led the remainder of the 25 lap feature event. Cummins also won the second heat race. He was in a different ride for the Showdown. Kyle was in the seat of the Rick Pollock 21x and the combination was fast and effective right out of the trailer. He also turned the second overall fastest time during group qualifying with a 13.772 mark.

Donny Brackett of Haubstadt, IN, finished second in the feature. It was his best finish of the season in MSCS competition. He moved into the challenger’s spot halfway through the feature and held off the advances of MSCS points leader Brady Short the last 10 laps. Short would finish third followed by Dakota Jackson and veteran campaigner Ted Hines.

Dakota Jackson led the first 9 laps of the feature. He had started on the pole by winning a hard fought first heat race and then benefiting again when the redraw to invert the feature lineup came up as a ZERO. Hines’s appearance in the top five was worthy of him receiving the Keizer Aluminum Wheels Hard Charger of the Race. He started 13th and gained 8 spots, No other cars gained over 2 or 3 positions. Moving up was tough!

The second five for the feature included Kent Schmidt, Brandon Morin, Jordan Kinser, Tyler Hewitt, and Kendall Ruble. Rookie driver Nevil Algie received the Wilwood Tuff Brakes Award that accompanies an eleventh place finish.

Only two drivers failed to finish the feature. Carson Short needed a tow to the pits after in incident in turn three on lap 8. Jadon Rogers had a wheel come off and his efforts came to a stop in turn one of lap 12. The final yellow flag was waved as Tyler Hewitt spun with just 10 laps to go. He had been working on a top five finish.
The top nine drivers at the finish were on the lead lap.

The next event scheduled for the Hoosier Sprint Car Series will be at the Daugherty Speedway at Boswell, IN. The race will be on Saturday June 25th and it pays $2,000 to win and $200 to start. MSCS will return to race at Tri-State Speedway again on July 3rd.

The UMP Modifed feature followed the MSCS feature. Levi Kissinger of Mt. Vernon, IN, captured the 25 lap feature. It was his second win at the speedway this season. Matt Lane and Mark Lamont finished second and third. Only a half second separated the two challengers.
Dustin Beck and Josh Harris rounded out the top five.

A red flag was needed when Brandon McDowell rolled his car several times with just 3 laps to go in the feature. Earlier McDowell had won his heat race. Levi Kissinger and Larry Anderson also won heat races. Clay Lane won the 12 lap B Main for the mods.

The Neal Tire MOWA Sprint Car Series concluded the program with their
25 lap feature event. The victory would be Jerrod Hull’s. The Sikeston, MO, driver is no stranger to Tri-State Speedway’s high banks.
He and runner-up Hunter Schuerenberg have both turned a lot of laps at the track. Jim Moughan, Kody Kinser, and Critter Malone rounded out the top five for the “Summer Showdown.”

The three heat races were won by Hunter Schuerenberg, Cale Thomas, and A.J. Bruns. Thomas finished sixth in the feature and Bruns was seventh.

Two Sprint car drivers took the challenge of doing double duty. MSCS drivers Dakota Jackson and Carson Short brought two sprint cars – one winged and one non-winged. Jackson had the best performance with a fourth in MSCS competition and a ninth in MOWA competition.

The MOWA feature was not run without incidents. Bret Triplett flipped his winged sprint midway through the event. Carson Short was involved later in a separate incident.

The MOWA Sprints will be back to race at the Tri-State Speedway Sunday night July 3rd. The event is the annual Sprint Stampeded with MSCS & MOWA Sprints plus Modifieds.

The very next race at the Tri-State Speedway will be on June 26th.
That night is set for this year’s Late Model Summernationals which pays $5,000 to win. The Summit Modified will run for $1,000 to win.
