NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (June 17) — Lately it seems the only thing that can stop Jason Hughes is the weather.

On the heels of two rained-out events on Tuesday and Wednesday, the defending USMTS national champ from Watts, Okla., made it two in a row Friday during opening night of the 18th Annual Masters at the Cedar Lake Speedway.

In scoring his ninth feature win of the year and 142nd of his 17-year career, Hughes deposited another $3,000 check into his bank account and padded his points lead in the RealTruck.com Northern Region points standings.

Polesitter Dan Ebert led the first lap before Mason Big Eagle gained the first position before a second lap was completed.

Lucas Schott moved in to challenge Big Eagle on lap 5, but was unable to find a way around the leader so he slid into the high line on lap 11-just in time to thwart Ebert’s oncoming charge around the top.

Two laps later, Schott passed Big Eagle around the outside and began to pull away until the race’s first and only caution for Joe Duvall’s flat tire on lap 16.

Two laps after the restart, Hughes showed his nose to Schott and the leader changed his line to run the bottom and block Hughes’ advance, but Hughes reciprocated by inhabiting the high line.

After a couple of side-by-side laps, Hughes led for the first time on lap 26 and never trailed again over the final 16 laps.

Schott withstood a late-race challenge from Cade Dillard to hang on for the runner-up finish while Ebert and Big Eagle completed the top five finishers.

Thirteenth-starting Matt Leer was sixth, followed by Craig Thatcher, Jacob Bleess, Jesse Sobbing and Jason Gross.

The Masters continues Saturday with another full program featuring another $3,000 winner’s share of the prize money. UMP Hell Tour Late Models will share the spotlight with racing getting started at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $30 for adults, $15 for students ages 6-16 and kids; 5 and under are free. Pit passes are $40.

Trackside parking available for the entire weekend only. Regular parking available for the day or weekend for free. Camping is available for $35 for the entire weekend. Call (612) 363-0479 for details.

The event will also be carried live via pay-per-view at www.DirtonDirt.com.

The Cedar Lake Speedway is a high-banked 3/8-mile clay oval located 1 mile east of SR 35 on SR 64, then 4.2 miles north on CR C to CR CC, then left 1.8 miles. For more information, call (612) 363-0479 or (715) 248-7119 or check out www.cedarlakespeedway.com online.

All roads lead to the highly-anticipated inaugural Widow Wax Summersota Nationals, June 22-25, at the I-94 Raceway in Fergus Falls, Minn., where a $15,000 payday awaits the winner.
