LATE MODELS AT TRI-STATE SPEEDWAY ON JUNE 26TH
Haubstadt, IN – June 21, 2016 – The Dirt Car UMP Summernationals tour will arrive at Haubstadt a week earlier this season. The best of the country’s late model chauffeurs will be at Tri-State Speedway to compete this Sunday night June 26th. The late model feature winner will receive a check for $5,000! Those accumulating Summernationals Title points are also on the finish line each night.
The points standing for the 4 week series is subject to change with racing happening night after night along the tour. After the first week two drivers shared the headlines. Billy Moyer of Batesville, AR, won two features in a row in Wisconsin. Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, IL, had also collected two wins. Pierce is the defending Summernationals Champion, a feat accomplished at age 18. Billy Moyer already has six titles to his credit. The two wins to start this year’s tour were numbers 91 and 92 for him in series history. The 54 year old Hall of Fame driver is showing no signs of slowing down.

Bobby Pierce was second at last year’s event which was won by Shannon Babb. Those in the running with high finishes this year include Mike Marlar, Jason Feger, Frank Heckenast Jr., Mike Spatula, Chris Simpson, and Jimmy Mars. The list of top drivers changes as the series crosses eight state lines. The event at Tri-State Speedway is the second of only five to be held in the Hoosier state.
The UMP Summernationals is a colorful show and one of the most exciting racing events in the country. It comes complete with the traveling pros whose collective driving experience and skills make late model racing one of the most prestigious oval track events in motor sports. The atmosphere begins upon arrival. The traveling fans arrive early, sponsor banners welcome them, the T-Shirt and souvenir trailers are already lined up for inspection, and a steady progression of car haulers are entering the pits!
The UMP Open Wheel Modifieds will be competing in a special event of their own Sunday night. The Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals will provide a purse that pays $1,000 to win. Former winners on this night include local hot-shoe Dustin Beck and travelers Jacob Poel from Michigan and Mike Harrison from Illinois.
Each of those three years this event has showcased more than 40 modified cars and drivers!
Also coming up in July at the speedway will be two great programs.
The Sprint Stampede will be held on Sunday July 3rd. This race program presents the MSCS Sprints plus the MOWA Sprints. Add in the UMP Open Wheel Modifieds and the show should top race fan’s Fourth of July Holiday plans. Indiana Sprint Week featuring the USAC National Sprint Cars is next. The sprint week finale will once again be held at Tri-State Speedway on Saturday July 16th this year.
