(Warrensburg, MO) The weather and track surface dried out late in the week and for Saturday evening’s race program, which provided eager race fans a night of family fun on 610 Sports Radio race night at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS).

After some long hours by the track prep crew this week, the high-banked racing surface was racy and fast as 88 drivers produced some thrilling racing for the fans throughout the evening. The weekly racing series feature winners included Gunner Martin from Independence in the USRA Modified feature as claimed his fourth feature win of the season.

The B-Mod feature had Chad Staus from Otterville driving against another tough field of drivers for his first CMS win of the season. Brian Ziegler from Bates City took home his fourth feature of the year in the Street Stocks and Byron Glotzbach from Topeka, Kansas grabbed his third feature victory this season in the Pure Stocks. Larry Ferris from Nevada with his first visit to CMS and first feature win grabbed the checkers for the ULMA Late Models.

The Pure Stocks opened the heat racing action with 14 drivers checked in for competition. Byron Glotzbach worked his way to the front for the first heat win of the night ahead of Jeremiah Wilson and Rodger Detherage In heat two, Darrin Christy claimed the checkers with Jimmy Smith and Tyler Schoen following.

In the B-modifieds heats races, Kaleb Bray picked up the win in heat one followed by Cody Brill and Bobby Russell. In heat two, Russell Niehoff claimed the top spot ahead of Chad Staus and Chris Kitch. In the final heat race, Jake Richards crossed the finish line ahead of Cody Frazon and Chris Brockway for the win.

Aaron Marrant sailed to the first ULMA Late Model heat win in front of Lane Ehlert and Bob King. In heat two, first-time visitor Larry Ferris notched the win ahead of Bobby Penney and Kevin Coyne.

In the Street Stocks division, 17 drivers had a final night to dial in their cars for their $1,500 to-win special next weekend. The first heat had Brian Eckhoff ahead of Brian Ziegler and Brett Wood. Marc Carter made a late-race pass to claim the second and final heat race with Troy Turley and Clayton Campbell following.

This week in the always tight and competitive USRA modified heat races, the fans were entertained to some side-by-side action with 22 drivers registered. Aaron Marrant powered ahead to the win in heat one just ahead of Kevin Blackburn and Dwight Niehoff. Shad Badder crossed the finish line in front of Tim Karrick and Dalton Kirk in heat two while the final heat of the evening saw Gunner Martin charge ahead to the checkers with Eddie Bray, Jr., and Nathan Vaughn in the top three.

When Pure Stock drivers returned to the track for their 12-lap main event, Glotzbach grabbed the early lead with Detherage, Darrin Christy, and Tyler Schoen close behind. Glotzbach had the right setup for the evening and led by 5 car lengths by lap four. Schoen then started to close in on Christy on lap five as Glotzbach pulled away. Glotzbach closed into lapped traffic on lap eight, but maintained his lead as smoke started to appear from his car.

Christy closed in and made it a tight finish but Glotzbach hung on for his third feature win this year. Christy and Schoen appeared to finish in the top three, but were later disqualified from the final rundown during post-race technical inspection, meaning Jeremiah Wilson was scored in second with Detherage, Jimmy Smith, and 14-year old Krew Walburn rounding out the top five.

The B-mod feature had 23 cars starting the race as Kaleb Bray and Chad Staus charged hard into the first turn with Russell Niehoff and Cody Brill in tow. Staus looked strong all night and established his lead early as Niehoff tried to get by him on numerous occasions. Niehoff ran side-by-side with Staus several times, but could not complete the pass.

Behind the leaders, Cody Brill had a solid run to third as Cody Frazon, an early race challenger, had to depart the track with a mechanical problem late in the race. Kaleb Bray also challenged early in the race in the top five after a flipping his car last weekend on the back straight-away. Staus kept all competitors in his rear view mirror during the main event and claimed his first CMS feature win of the year. Niehoff settled for second with Brill, third. Jake Richards made a late charge into fourth while Bray hung on for fifth.

The ULMA feature saw a dozen drivers on hand with Larry Ferris of Nevada, Missouri leading the charge into turn one with Bobby Penny pressuring for the lead the first half of the race. Aaron Marrant had his hands full with Johnny Fennewald as he tried to hold him off for the third spot. Fennewald managed to move up from an eighth place starting spot and worked his way around Marrant into third. Ferris maintained control of the entire race and came home with his first CMS ULMA feature win. Penny kept control finishing in the second spot with Fennewald third, Marrant fourth and Todd McCoin with a solid run starting in tenth place moving up to fifth by race end.

As the green flag flew for the street stock feature, Marc Carter led the pack with Brain Ziegler maneuvering to the high side of the track to make his move around Carter. Ziegler moved past Carter on a lap two restart as Clayton Campbell worked his way into the top three. Carter fell back to third as Brett Wood then shot up into fourth position.

On lap 13, Ziegler pulled away from the top five until a late caution bunched up the field. Ziegler stood his ground as the checkers flew, gaining his fourth feature win of the year. Campbell stayed close behind in second, but never seemed to have quite enough grip to get around Ziegler. Carter, Wood, and Brian Eckhoff rounded out the top five.

The 22 USRA modified drivers once again exhibited their excellent driving skills as Shad Badder led the early portion of the 25-lap feature. After a few early cautions, Badder started to pull away from the field but Gunner Martin stalked the leader until he motored down low on the back stretch after a lap 16 restart to seize the lead.

Badder was strong throughout but the hard charger of the night was Jim Moody who started 22nd and picked his way through the field into the top three by lap 20. Martin proved to be resilient though as the double checkers flew for him for his fourth feature win this year. Badder hung on to second after the final restart as Moody claimed third with a solid run from deep in the field. Kevin Blackburn had another solid run into fourth while Marrant settled for the fifth position at the race’s conclusion.
