Hello to all the race fans out there. This is the St. Francois County Raceway Auto Plaza Group Race Recap for the St. Francois County Fair Race which took place on Friday, July 29th.
For the first time in nearly 20 years, the St. Francois County Fair put on a fair race and it was filled with excitement. Since the fair race was not like any other typical night of racing, there were only three classes there for the event. B-modifieds, 410 Sprints, and A-modifieds were the three lucky classes for the night’s event.

B-modified
Up first is the B-modified class. In the first of two heats for the B-modified class race fans were able to watch an action packed race dominated by the number 1 car with Shane Blair behind the wheel. Shane took the lead early on and pull away with the win with the 147 car driven by Kyle Stolzer and the 7 of Tim Nash in third.
In the second heat, the 74 car with Jeff Whitter behind the wheel took the win after a great race. The 10b of Colby Benson finished second and finishing in third place was the 10x car driven by Kyle Jarrett.

The feature was also an action packed race. Taking home the trophy and the $750 was Shane Blair in the number 1 car. Finishing behind him in second place was Kyle Stolzer in the 147 car. Bringing home the third place finish was the number 3 car driven by Craig Bessinger with Jeff Whitter behind him in the number 74. Finishing in the fifth position was Eddie Gross in the 4g car.

Sprints
In the first of three heats, the 42 car driven by Andy McElhannon took the victory. Second place went to Tommy Worley Jr. in his 97 car with Matt Zimmerly finishing in third place.

First place in heat number two went to Kent Buckley in the 87 car. Jimmy Bridgeman finished second in the 14t car with Jeff Wurst taking third place in the 88 car.

The third heat went to the 12x driven by Joey Montgomery. Finishing in second place was the 40 car driven by Howard Moore with Jason Keith finishing third in the 28 car.

The top two in each heat went on to run a dash. Taking the win in the dash was Tommy Worley Jr. in the 97. The 87 of Kent Buckley finished second and Howard Moore finished third in the 40 car.
The feature was a race for $2,500. With a lot of money on the line, drivers managed to put on a great show for the fans. Taking home the win was Joey Montgomery in the 12x car. Jason Keith took second in the 28. Finishing third place was Tommy Worley Jr. in his 97 car. The 87 of Kent Buckley took home a fourth place finish and finishing off the top five was the 42 of Andy McElhannon.

A-modified
In the first of only two heats in the A-modified class, Brent Thompson took first place in his 18 ride. Brian Wolfmeier finished in second place in the 37 car with Matt Dotson in the 45 car finishing in third.

In the second heat, Billy Smith took the victory in his 14 car. Jeff Asher finished behind him in second place in the 56 car with Greg Swaringim taking third in the 25s.
Since there were only two heats, the top three of each heat went on to run the dash. Taking first in the dash was Brent Thompson in the 18 car. Behind him was Brian Wolfmeier in car number 37 in second and Billy Smith in third with his 14 car.

The feature for the A-modifieds also had a larger payout of $1,500. This main event was a length of 50 laps which tested many things including the strength of the cars and the drivers. Taking home the big check was the 14 car of Billy Smith after leading the majority of the race. Finishing right behind him was the 18 of Brent Thompson with the 56 driven by Jeff Asher in third place. Finishing fourth place was Matt Dotson in his 45 car with Dave Armstrong finishing fifth in the 34 car.

St. Francois County Raceway will be closed on the weekend of August 5th and 6th for the Craftsman World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series while they are at the Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 for the Ironman 55. St. Francois County Raceway will resume racing on Friday, August 12th with the Doe Run Raceway Series.
