(Warrensburg, MO) Saturday evening weather was more enjoyable this weekend for race fans and drivers on KMZU 100.7 FM race night at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS). The racing surface was multi-grooved and fast as 78 drivers pushed their racing machines to their limits to entertain the fans throughout the evening.
The weekly racing series feature winners included Shad Badder from Blue Springs in the USRA Modified division as he claimed his second feature win of the season. The B-Mod feature had Jacob Ebert from Oak Grove besting the strong field for his sixth CMS win of the season. John Brooks from Warrensburg took home his 94th career feature in the Street Stocks. Darrin Christy from Kansas City hung in there and on the last lap grabbed his fourth Pure Stock feature win. Dillon Raffurty from Independence flew into victory lane for his second CMS feature win in the guest class Midwest Mod Lites.
The Pure Stocks started the evening heat race action with 10 drivers checked into the pits. Points leader, Rodger Detherage worked his way to the front for the first heat win of the night ahead of Chris Akers and Nick Pickard. In heat two, Don Johnson claimed the checkers with Darrin Christy and Rob Gard following.
In the B-mod division, 20 drivers competed in three heats races, Troy Carlyle came from tail back to grab the win in heat one followed by Chad Staus and Bill Small. In heat two, Lucas Isaacs crossed the finish line ahead of Bobby Russell and Johnny McGinnis. In the final heat, Jacob Ebert won from the tail of the field and claimed the top spot ahead of Brett Wood and Rex Harris.
With 15 Midwest Mod Lite drivers registered for racing, Ed Griggs cruised to the first Midwest Mod Lite heat win in front of Michael Raffurty and Jeff Raffurty. In heat two, Dillon Raffurty notched the win ahead of David Raffurty and Justin Raffurty. In the final Mod Lite, heat Donny Dannar led the entire race for the win with John Sharpe and Nathan Wolf following.
In the Street Stock class, 11 drivers tested their setups in two heat races. The first heat had Clayton Campbell ahead of Troy Turley and Brian Inlow while Brett Wood claimed the second and final heat race with Gary Akers and Jay Prevete following.
In the always exciting and highly competitive USRA modified heat races, the fans watched their favorite of 22 drivers registered compete in three heat races. Lewis Jackson powered ahead to the win in heat one just ahead of Brian Johnson and Darron Fuqua. Robbie Test crossed the finish line in front of Lucas Conley and Jimmy Dean Eaton in heat two. In the final heat of the evening, Gunner Martin charged ahead to the checkers with Shad Badder and Kevin Blackburn in the top three.
The first feature of the night had points leader Roger Detherage in the Pure Stocks take the early lead when Detherage dove into turn one and flew out of turn two as the lead car with Darrin Christy and Don Johnson battling behind in the top three.  Detherage appeared to have the right set up last night and kept Christy at bay most of the race, but then developed a mechanical problem as smoke trailed his car. Detherage’s car finally gave out entering the final lap as Christy inherited the lead and brought out the double checkers for his fourth feature win this year. Nick Pickard had his best finish this season in second while Chris Akers, Don Johnson, and Brandon Box in his first appearance this year, rounded out the top five.
The B-mod feature had 20 drivers start the race as Jacob Ebert and Troy Carlyle charged hard into the first turn with Chad Staus and Lucas Isaacs in tow. Ebert quickly established a solid lead with Carlyle attempting to use the low side to pressure him. Meanwhile, Staus and Isaacs used the low side to his advantage as Staus tried to move up on Carlyle on the high side. In the end Ebert prevailed and claimed his sixth feature win to keep the pressure on points leader Carlyle who hung on for second. Isaacs had a strong showing in third with Staus, fourth and Rex Harris with his best CMS finish in fifth.
The Midwest Mod Lites with 15 drivers started the feature with Ed Griggs leading the charge from the front row into turn one with Dillon Raffurty pressuring him in the first half of the race. A lap eight incident with Griggs and David Raffurty in turn two relegated both drivers to the back of the filed. Dillon Raffurty took advantage of the caution and established a solid lead. Dillon stayed out front for the remainder of the race and crossed the finish line with his first CMS win this year. Travis Alexander finished second after a start from row number six. Donnie Dannar made an amazing comeback after a lap five spin on the front side and moved back up into third with Michael Raffurty and Jeff Raffurty completing the top five.
As the green flag flew for the street stock feature start Clayton Campbell dove hard in turn one with Brett Wood just to his outside and Brian Inlow just behind them. Campbell led the pack until Wood maneuvered his machine around Campbell for the lead about half way through the race. Meanwhile, the crowd grew excited as John Brooks, who started last after missing his heat race, charged up past Campbell late in the race. Finally, on lap 14, Brooks slid his car past Wood for the lead and took the checkered flag as the crowd roared with approval. Brooks captured his first CMS feature win this year with Campbell moving up into second on the last lap. Troy Turley ended with a third place as Allen Perryman and Gary Akers rounded out the top five. Wood and Inlow fell out of the race on the final turns as both spun from contention.
The 22 USRA modified drivers once again entertained race fans as Gunner Martin led the early portion of the 25-lap feature from pole position. After several early race cautions, Martin stayed on the low side while Lewis Jackson mastered the high side to grab the lead from Martin. Then, later in the race, Shad Badder took the advantage to grab the lead from Jackson. There were at least two distinct lines both high and low that the drivers were using to their advantage. Kevin Blackburn also used both low and high side moves to work his way up from his third row inside starting spot.
As the final checkers of the night flew, Badder pulled away for his second feature win of the year. Jackson kept his strong night going with a solid run to second while point’s leader Blackburn finished third, Martin was fourth while Brian Johnson hung on for a solid run into fifth.
