(Warrensburg, MO) Saturday night produced near-perfect weather as 102 drivers checked in for racing and fun for the whole family for competition in USRA Modified, Street Stock, ULMA Late Model, B-Mod, and Pure Stock competition.

Darrin Christy from Kansas City grabbed his fifth Pure Stock feature of the year then Jacob Ebert from Oak Grove claimed his eighth B-mod feature of the season. In the guest class ULMA Late Model feature, Larry Ferris from Nevada guided his machine into victory lane for his second CMS feature win. Brett Wood from Warrensburg muscled his car to his sixth Street Stock feature and Matt Dotson of Hallsville made a last turn pass and earned his third USRA CMS Modified victory for the feature win.

It took two heat races of 14 drivers for the Pure Stock division to determine the main event lineup. Heat one went to Kyle Rowland over Darrin Christy and Nick Pickard. In Heat two Roger Detherage battled to the checkers ahead of Larry Norris and Brandon Box.

Rowland and Christy began the Pure Stock main event up front with Detherage in the mix. Rowland appeared to be the driver to beat, but did not follow track official’s instructions on the restarts and was sent to the tail of the field. Christy then inherited the lead and never looked back for the remainder of the race as he took the checkered flag. Detherage challenged Christy several times but finished second with Don Johnson, Nick Pickard, and Rowland in the top five. Rowland settled in and battled back into the fifth spot after his penalty during the race.

The 22 USRA B-Modified drivers on hand competed in three heats to determine the main event lineup. Jacob Ebert found a groove early for a victory in heat race number one over Troy Carlyle and Chad Staus. Bobby Russell fought off a hard-charging Dakota Foster and Cole Campbell to claim heat two. Cody Frazon advanced to claim heat three over Doug Wetzel and Dean Wille.

Ebert quickly established himself up front as Russel, Frazon and Foster kept close tabs on the leader. Turn four turned into a tough corner for many drivers as numerous cautions caused a disjointed early portion of the race. After drivers settled down, Ebert didn’t look back as he pulled away for his eighth feature win of the season. Foster finished with a strong run in second with Frazon, Russell, and Staus in the top five.

ULMA Late Models made their fifth appearance of the year with three heat races for the night. Larry Ferris crossed the finish line first in the opening Late Model heat ahead of Vance Wilson and Jon Binning. Cody Holtkamp rocketed to the front in the second heat and claimed the win over Phil Edmondson and Todd McCoin. The final heat race had Dustin Hodges grabbing the win over Steven Clancy and Aaron Marrant

Ferris shot out to the lead out of turn one as Holtkamp and Hodges started the 20-lap ULMA event. Ferris was dominating all night and with only one caution the other drivers were attempting to find a line to catch him. Wilson found a good line on the track and worked past Hodges into the third spot in the first three laps. Even after the caution restart, Ferris found his rhythm and pulled away to grab his second CMS Late Model feature in a row. Holtkamp hung on for second as Wilson maintained the third spot to the end. Former track champion, Jon Binning moved up late in the race into fourth while Hodges rounded out the top five.

The Street Stock division had 17 drivers checked in for racing in three heat races to determine their feature event starting grid. Marc Carter claimed the opening Street Stock heat race over Johnny Wyman and Brian Eckhoff. Jay Prevete worked his way to the front in heat two ahead of Jeff Lazenby and Warren Hawthorne while Brett Wood prevailed in the third heat ahead of Brian Ziegler and John Brooks.

As the feature started a three wide battled ensued between Wood, Prevete and Carter. Wood emerged with the narrow lead as several cars including Prevete almost got together down the front wall early on. Wood pulled away and Carter made a rare spin in turn four for the only caution of the race. Wood went on to dominate the event earning his sixth feature win of the season. Ziegler had a solid run into second followed by Brian Eckhoff, who scored his best feature finish this season. Clayton Campbell had a remarkable finish in fourth after starting fourteenth while Johnny Wyman survived a last lap challenge by Carter and grabbed fifth.

USRA Modifieds were in full force again on Saturday as 29 drivers competed in four outstanding heat races to begin their portion of the program. Heat one went to Ryan Middaugh over last week’s feature winner Dalton Kirk and Terry Schultz. Shad Badder fought off Robbie Test and Danny Scrogham in heat two with Gunner Martin besting Eric Turner and Lewis Jackson in heat three. The final heat of the night went to Kevin Blackburn ahead of Jim Moody and Nathan Vaughn. In the B-main, six drivers advanced to the feature including Dean Wille, Colson Kirk, Kaleb Bray, Brian Johnson, Richard Layne and David Wood.

Badder and current points leader, Blackburn earned the front row starting positions for the USRA Modified main event. Badder established himself as the early leader and driver to beat. Meanwhile, Test, Martin, Moody, and Matt Dotson looked for race lines to move up into the top three.

Blackburn stayed in the second spot until late in the race as Dotson used the high and low side to finally take the second spot away from Blackburn and Moody. It looked like Badder was on his way to victory lane after leading the first 24 laps, but on the final turn in tight lapped traffic, Dotson somehow found a high side lane and nosed past Badder and won the final feature of the night, setting himself up as a favorite for the final Labor Day USRA Modified special of the year with his win last night.

If Dotson can win the Labor Day Special on Sunday, September 4th to go along with his Memorial Day Weekend special-event win, he could walk away a $2,500 bonus for winning two of the three scheduled big-money CMS special events. Badder held on to finish second in a heart-breaking loss to Dotson with Blackburn third, Moody fourth, and last week’s feature winner Dalton Kirk rounding out the top five.
