Louisiana Fast: Dillard dominates at Adams County Speedway

USMTS-United-States-Modified-Touring-SeriesCORNING, Iowa (Aug. 18) — His hometown of Robeline, La., may be half a world away, but Cade Dillard has certainly taken a liking to the State of Iowa.

With a dominating performance Thursday night at the Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa, the 25-year-old notched his second straight win in the Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup powered by S&S Fishing & Rental and seventh of his career-three of which have happened in the Hawkeye State.

Dillard started the 32-lap main event on the outside of polesitter Jason Hughes and immediately took control of the race.

Rodney Sanders slipped into second two laps later but could not keep up with the streaking Dillard. In fact, by lap 12, Dillard was ducking into turn three as Hughes was exiting turn two in third.

The track prep crew gave drivers a smooth, multi-lane track, but lapped traffic was hairy for Dillard as Sanders closed the gap in the late stages of the contest.

The first and only caution flag waved with five laps to go, but it was no help to his pursuers as Dillard sailed away to secure the $3,000 top prize.

Behind him, however, the action was hot and heavy the final five times around the big half-mile.

Zack VanderBeek, who tussled with Hughes for most of the race, snuck past both Hughes and Sanders one lap after the restart but was unable to track down Dillard and settled for the runner-up finish.

Jesse Sobbing also slipped by Sanders for third, and Hughes held off Johnny Scott for fifth.

Jesse Dennis, 23rd-starting Stormy Scott, Masen Big Eagle and Dereck Ramirez rounded out the top 10.

More than 100 drivers are entered for the biggest and richest one-day event in the history of dirt modified racing on Friday when fans and the top drivers in the sport converge on the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City for the inaugural Grant Junghans Memorial presented by BriggsAuto.com.
