August 30, 2016, St. Louis Region – If flames are your thing, head to Gateway Motorsports Park’s Dragplex Friday night. The end-of-summer bonfire (we’re burning a car in a safe area) is the theme for the September 2 Midnight Madness Presented By Road Rage Fuel Booster event. The lifestyle happening will feature drifting, street-legal drag racing and music by D.J. Frizzy.
Admission is $15 for spectators and crew members and $25 to race. Spectators ages 12 and under are admitted free. Gates open at 6 p.m. with racing from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Gateway Motorsport Park’s Dragplex offers a safe alternative to illegal street racing. The 2016 season of GMP’s Midnight Madness presented by Road Rage Fuel Booster street legal program will continue through the end of October. Midnight Madness is open to any street-legal (registered, plated) vehicle and any licensed driver or rider. The cost to participate is reasonable and the program’s purpose is to attract illegal street racers to the safer confines of the GMP drag strip in an informal atmosphere. Unlike city streets, the Dragplex offers a clean strip of asphalt, free of oncoming motorists, intersections, curbs, pedestrians, animals and uneven pavement. Another feature is that Midnight Madness participants are racing on the same track used annually by the stars of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series at speeds in excess of 300 miles per hour.
All vehicles must be self-starting and no race cars (i.e. dragsters, Altereds) are allowed. All vehicles must pass a safety inspection before being allowed to compete. All drivers must present a valid driver’s license at the time of tech inspection. Â Participants 16 and 17 years of age must have a parental consent form completed prior to competition. A fire-and-safety team always is on duty.
