(Sedalia, Missouri) For the first time since the closing weekend of the Missouri State Fair, the ‘Historic Half Mile’ that is Missouri State Fair Speedway is set to host three distinctly different race divisions on Saturday, September 17th for Champion Oil Night at the Races.
The Speedway Motors ASCS Warrior Region presented by Impact Signs, Awnings, and Wraps will take to the track along with ULMA Late Models and USRA B-Mods. For the Warrior Region drivers, it will mark the second-consecutive night of competition after competing at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City on Friday night.
Saturday’s event marks the sixth appearance of the Warrior Region sprinters this season. Previous winners include Brandon Hanks, Jonathan Cornell, Brad Loyet, and Brian Brown. Sedalia’s own Jonathan Cornell currently leads the standings over Evan Martin, Danny Thoman, Austin Alumbaugh, and Cody Baker. Other top-tier drivers within the series include Broc Elliott, Tyler Blank, Corey Nelson, Randy Martin, and Lanny Carpenter. Note, mention of driver name does not guarantee race appearance.
ULMA drivers last participated in action at the speedway during the closing night of the state fair in the Inaugural ULMA Invitational. This time, all ULMA-legal drivers are welcome to participate in this non-points earning ULMA-sanctioned event.
The 2016 ULMA Championship recently wrapped up with Dustin Hodges claiming the championship over Aaron Marrant, Cody Holtkamp, Chris Cox, and Bobby Penney. In the last ULMA appearance at the track, Larry Ferris celebrated the win over a torrid battle for second between Chris Smyser and Vance Wilson. ULMA drivers compete for $700 to win this weekend.
USRA B-Mods make their first appearance of the year at the speedway presenting a rare opportunity for local B-Mod drivers to compete at the ‘Historic Half Mile’ for a $400-to-win payday. Several area drivers have shown interest in competing this weekend in the B-Mod ranks and with several Missouri-based drivers high in the national B-Mod standings, it’s anyone’s guess who may show to race for late-season valuable points.
