Union, KY (October 22, 2016)- The Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series would conclude the 2016 racing season on Saturday evening at Florence Speedway in Union, KY with the tour’s 7th Annual Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series Season Championship event and Trent Young of Hopkinsville, KY would pick up the $5,000 payday, claim his ninth win with the series for the season, and wrap up the Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series tour championship. Young’s victory would come aboard the Dave Mitchell owned Snap-On Tools/Mitchell Tools and Motorsports/Ted Brown’s Quality Paint and Body/R&S Equipment/Emma’s Place/Young’s Well Service/Kissinger Red Angus sponsored #10Y Bandit Race Car, SPEC Race Engines powered entry.

Young and Victor Lee would duel with each other for the lead for the opening seven circuits of the contest before Lee would claim the top spot on lap 8, while Jesse Wisecarver would work his way to the third position. The first caution waved for debris on lap 11 and the restart would also be cautioned when fifth place running Matt Cooper spun in turn two. The restart would see Young retake the lead, with Wisecarver going by Lee for second on lap 12 as well before Mark Lamont slowed on the backchute to draw another caution with 13 laps complete. Young would again control the restart, with Wisecarver second, and 10th starting Allen Weisser now in third. The final caution of the event waved on lap 16 when Billy Vaughn and Matt Hamilton would tangle in turn one. This restart would see Young motor away once again, with 12th starting Josh Harris now up to third and Harris would pass Weisser for second on lap 20. Harris would then begin the process of reeling in race leader Young over the next fifteen laps and would close right up on Young’s rear bumper on lap 36, however, Young would not be denied and would pull away a bit in the final four circuits to claim the win. Harris would settle for second, while 14th starting Jackie Boggs would claim third. Weisser and Wisecarver would complete the top five.

The remainder of the top ten at the completion of the 7th Annual Summit Racing Equipment AMS A-Main event would be Lee, Chad Bauer, Brian Shaw, 22nd starting Clayton Miller, and Derek Groomer. The event would be slowed by four caution periods.

In preliminary action, Trent Young was the Quick Car Racing Products top qualifier among 54 entries at 19.101 seconds. Summit Racing Equipment heat one went to Trent Young, while Billy Vaughn scored the win in Fast Shafts heat two. Hypercoils heat three went to Adam Stricker and Frankland Racing Equipment heat four would be won by Victor Lee. Derek Groomer would be the winner of Summit Racing Equipment heat five, with Jesse Wisecarver the winner of Fast Shafts heat six. The Out-Pace Race Products B-Mains were won by Brandon Green and Jerry Bowersock. Series provisional starting spots went to Dave Mitchell and Clayton Miller, while John Holt, Jr. was the track provisional.
