Batesville, Arkansas (11/29/16) – Jared Landers was examined by a specialist at the Cleveland Clinic on Monday as the Arkansas native looked for more insight into the status of his recovery from his July crash.

The physician gave the pilot of the Crop Production Services #777 Mark Martin Automotive/ Sweet Bloomquist/ Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model the news that he had been praying to hear.
“Basically he said that, while I’ll always have a big of a scar where the injury was on my carotid artery, that things have healed nicely,” said Landers. “Most important to me, he said that he wants to see me back here in a few months for one more round of tests, but that he doesn’t currently see a reason that I can’t return to action in time for Speedweeks.

Jared suffered a torn carotid artery in his neck in a wild flip at Tri City Speedway (Granite City, Illinois) on July 15, 2016. The extent of the injury wasn’t discovered until mid-August, and he’s been out of action ever since.

“To say I’ve been on pins and needles for the past five months now would be a giant understatement,” commented Landers. “As a racer you just sit there and think ‘what am I going to do to support my family if I can no longer race’. Then you are also thinking my family absolutely comes first, so there’s no way I can get back in a car if the doctors aren’t confident that I’ll be safe doing so.

“Mark (Martin) went with me to the doctor’s appointment, and the two of us asked every question imaginable, and the great news was that the doctor had no concern about me racing again,” continued Landers.

While there has been some speculation in the racing community about the potential that the injury may have been created due to restricted movement because of his restraints, Landers quickly indicated that the doctor dismissed this potential.

“Again Mark and I point blank asked the doctor if my safety devices might have caused the injury, and the doctor immediately told me the devices had no factor in my injury. He basically said that this injury was created from the sudden stop and that with or without my head restraint I would’ve suffered this injury because of how violent the wreck was.”

As Landers and his team begin to prepare for the 2017 season opener in early February at Golden Isles Speedway (Brunswick, Georgia) with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series he wants to again thank everyone for their support.

“My family, my sponsors, and my fans have been nothing short of incredible through this whole ordeal,” Landers thoughtfully said. “I feel like I’m more focused than ever before on my life and my racing career, and I can’t wait to get back on the track.
