Donnellson, Iowa (May 4, 2017) – Chris Simpson started the season strong and he kept riding the wave of success, Thursday night at Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa. Simpson fired from the DirtOnDirt.com pole, and led every lap for his first Lucas Oil MLRA win of the year and third overall.

The race was not without it’s share of intrigue. With nine laps remaining, Simpson shot to the outside of Brent Larson exiting turn two where the line narrows. The move allowed him room to maneuver and increase his lead over Tony Jackson Jr, who closed in on him late.

“I was hoping he (Larson) seen me, cause it could have got ugly up there,” said Simpson of the move. “I feel like that is what won the race. I gotta thank all the fans. This place is phenomenal every time we come here.”

Tony Jackson started fifth and methodically made his way forward to second.

“He (Simpson) had the best car,” Jackson admitted. “We was pretty good. I got a vibration there with about ten laps to go. When you start point racing, you try to finish instead of trying to win.”

Jimmy Mars also came on as the race progressed, moving up four spots to complete the podium.

“Lapped traffic got a little tough there,” commented Mars. “You try to roll the guys in the middle. And you could get a few in the middle but then it started crumming up real bad. We had to get back on the bottom and just kind of wait our turn to squirt by somebody if we could.”

The race had a yellow on the initial restart involving several cars. Once it went green the feature ran caution free.

Chad Simpson and Billy Moyer were fourth and fifth respectively.

Terry Phillips crossed the finish line sixth and took over the points lead. Friday evening at Davenport Speedway, he will be displaying the Midwest Sheet Metal fluorescent yellow point leader spoiler. He was also the evening’s fast qualifier overall in time trials. Racing gets underway at 6:15 PM for the second of three straight nights of action.
