Inside Line Promotions – GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (Jan. 9, 2019) – There is no more of a decorated driver entering the famed Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals than Sammy Swindell.

Swindell has earned the most event victories – five – and the most Vacuworx Invitational Race of Champions wins – four – throughout the storied history of the marquee midget event, which is held inside the River Spirit Expo Center in Tulsa, Okla., next week.

“Mainly staying out of trouble and having a good car where you can run anywhere you need to run,” Swindell noted as the keys for his success. “I try to get my car where I can run almost anywhere. When you get to traffic sometimes you have to go to the other lane and you need to be good everywhere.”

Swindell will tackle the Vacuworx Invitational Race of Champions next Tuesday before his preliminary night the following day. The event concludes on Jan. 19.

“You just have to take whatever you can get and try to avoid a lot of things,” he said. “(The preliminary night heat race) can definitely make or break you. I’ve been on both sides there. If you don’t get through that and the qualifier it puts you behind.”

Swindell will be using a different engine than he’s used to, which made his appearance during the 3rd annual VP Racing Fuels Gateway Dirt Nationals in late November very important.

“This motor is a little different than the motor last year so we were able to do a couple of things,” he said. “Some of the circumstances got us. In my heat race I was well in a transfer and hit a rut wrong. From there on out we were in the back. However, racing that event helped us sort out some things we wouldn’t be able to do at the Chili Bowl.”

Swindell Motorsports will also have a second entry at the Chili Bowl with Ryan Bernal piloting the No. 39. His preliminary night is Thursday, Jan. 18.

“We want to thank Bertrand Motorsports and Stanton Racing Engines for the engines we will use in both cars during the Chili Bowl,” Swindell added.
