The 2019 Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) season opener is just two weeks away on Saturday, April 20th with A-Mods, Street Stocks, B-Mods, Mod-Lites, and Pure Stocks set for competition. However, before the first official green flag waves over the track, drivers have a chance to show off their new looks at the annual car show and fine-tune their cars and skills during the only test and tune session prior to opening night.

The annual car show kicks off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, one week before opening night. This year, the car show takes place at the track on the front side parking lot adjacent to Highway 13. Drivers have a chance to meet and greet race fans, talk about their sponsors and race programs while fans have the rare opportunity to see the cars up close and personal and chat with the drivers before they hit the track. Cars will remain on display from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Drivers who pre-signed up for the car show need to be in place by 9:45 that morning, unloaded, and ready to meet fans by 10 a.m. Cars should be shined up and ready for pictures with fans. Drivers are encouraged to bring small hand-outs (candy, driver cards, etc.) to the young fans and be prepared to allow them to sit in the driver’s seat for photo opportunities. All sharp edges should be covered, and the driver’s seat area made safe for fans to enjoy an up-close and safe view of the cars. Track personnel will be on hand to hand out season schedules and answer questions regarding the coming season.

Immediately following the car show drivers will make their way to the pit-side of the speedway in preparation for the evening practice session and into the night under the lights. One free pit pass will be awarded to the drivers who displayed their cars for the length of the car show. All other pit passes are $25. Grandstand admission for the fans is free and there are limited concessions available throughout the evening session. Pit gates will officially open upon completion of the car show at 3 with practice laps beginning at 5 and continuing until 8 p.m.

The next improvement planned for the speedway is raising the Musco lighting units from their original height. Speedway co-owner and promoter Susan Walls said, “We just signed for taller poles, it should improve lighting around the speedway and grounds.” Another addition for the 2019 season will be the first-ever CMS Track App for Android and iPhone users. The App is currently in its final stages of development and is expected to roll out in time for opening weekend, stay tuned for the official release!

There are a limited number of job opportunities available for the coming season at Central Missouri Speedway in the ticketing offices and concessions stands. Serious inquiries only may be directed to Susan Walls at 816.229.1338, no calls after 8 p.m. Resume is required. Potential concessions stand workers must possess the food servers permit. Visit johnsoncountyhealth.org/foodsafetytraining for complete details.
