leaf spring help

what would flipping the leaf spring around (front for the back) do for the spring rating?

here is my situation - the car i have when i bought it has the leafs in backwards (i think this was a fast boy set up at one time) - i have bought new springs for the car and was originally going to redo all the mounts front and back and all the mounts on the rearend so that the leafs would be mounted correctly - running out of time i held one of the new leaf springs up to the old one in the reverse position just like what is on the car and it matches up - so it appears i can just drop the old ones off and remount the new ones in reverse/backwards - the problem is this puts the longer (or weaker) part of the pring in the front - but what does it do to the spring rate

last year the car handled good - i have people tell me that the car squats in the rear when i am on the gas hard which makes sense how the leafs are mounted - i would like to get the new leafs on the car just because i think the old ones are wore out - whats everyones opinion

put them in the way they are designed to be put in, and yes they are wore out if they have more than 5 nights on them.

Where do you race and who did the car come from? I've had 3 different fastboys setup cars and the springs are changed but certainly not backward. Since the rear part is way longer this would make no sense. If I can see the car in person or in pics I could tell you what I know. I have a truckload of leaf parts.

That puts the part of the spring that has rating in in the front which is of course weaker. Dustin is correct in saying they are WORN OUT! Just build the springs like you have done in the past and be sure and get that extra shackle mount on the LS if its not there..You will go through springs way too fast with your current setup. The front section of the spring is the part that twists. You are putting alot of strain on the weak end of the spring in current configuration.

not sure whats in it now - i bought the landrum chevy leafs - they are both on sliders on the rear of the car

i run eldora speedway - a fast 1/2 mile high banked track

other than redoing the whole rear set up - does anyone know of a way to get the leafs in the right direction - is there some kind of adapter or can one be made and not affect the rate of the springs or how they work - i cant move the rearend forward 6" there just is not room

Ya.... I didnt think about the pin location.. That will shorten the wheelbase..You would have to move a shock mount to the front. Check and see if there is one in that position...

I think you might have purchased the wrong springs, measure from the center of front eye to the bolt that centers the spring on the rearend(24 3/4" for Chevy and 20 1/2" Chrysler).

There is a possibility that you have a wrong springs. They probably came from a car of some description, which means you've either got to try and figure it out (it'll probably be the same one that donated the wheels and axle).
