CARTERSVILLE, GA – The Top 10 in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Presented By AR Bodies has been decided and the 2014 season has come to close with Week 27 competition. Five of the Top 10 drivers were in action this weekend with only two Saturday night races on the Week 27 schedule.
The top five NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division drivers in the point standings are National Champion Jeremy Idom of Hattiesburg, MS, National Championship Runner-Up Larry Faulk of Pace, FL, the 2013 National Champion Trey Bright of Coker, AL, Kevin Whittington of Brandon, MS, and David Windham of Florala, AL.
Finishing sixth through tenth respectively in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division point standings are Branden Harris of Molino, FL, Doug Lea of Milton, FL, Brandon Leftwich of Meridian, MS, Dean Shaw of Defuniak Springs, FL and Jay Geddie of Ellisville, MS.
The Top 10 drivers in the 2014 NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division point standings will receive an invitation to the NeSmith Racing Annual Awards Banquet in January at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame in Dawsonville, GA where they will be honored and receive their trophies and point fund checks.
Idom had a best 14 week total of 698 points to win the title after leading the series in wins at 14, leading the series in top five finishes with 28, and leading the series in top ten finishes with 29 in 31 races driving the Performance Bodies “Throwback” 1957 Chevrolet. Idom closed the 2014 season with a third-place finish on Saturday night at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS, but didn’t net any points.
Faulk finished second in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 686 points after six wins, 19 top five finishes and 24 top ten finishes in 30 races driving the L&H Construction Chevrolet powered by a $3,295 Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine. Faulk finished outside the top ten on Saturday night at Hattiesburg Speedway and did not net any points.
Bright followed up his 2013 NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division National Championship with a third place finish in the 2014 point standings after turning in a best 14 week total of 683 points. Bright had seven wins, 18 top five finishes and 22 top ten finishes driving the Eaton Clinic Chevrolet powered by a Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine.
Whittington took the fourth spot in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 678 points after six wins, 12 top five finishes and 16 top ten finishes in 20 races driving the Ergon, Inc. Chevrolet. Whittington finished outside the top ten on Saturday night at Hattiesburg Speedway and did not net any points.
Windham was fifth in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division point standings with a best 14 week total of 676 points after one win, 24 top five finishes and 31 top ten finishes in a series leading 33 races driving the Florala Pharmacy Chevrolet. Harris was sixth in the standings with a best 14 week total of 671 points after four wins, 14 top five finishes and 18 top ten finishes in 23 races driving the Coastal Engine and Machine Chevrolet.
Lea and Leftwich tied in points, as each driver had a best 14 week total of 663 points. Lea won the tie breaker to claim the seventh spot in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with two wins to none for Leftwich, who settled for the eighth spot. Lea drove the L&L Construction Services Chevrolet to two wins, 15 top five finishes and 20 top ten finishes in 21 races.
Leftwich had 13 top five finishes and 17 top ten finishes in 24 races driving the STR Race Cars Chevrolet powered by a Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine. Leftwich finished fourth on Saturday night at Hattiesburg Speedway and was able to net six points in the final week of the 2014 NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division season.
Shaw will finish ninth in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 655 points after three wins, 14 top five finishes and 20 top ten finishes in 20 races driving the S&S Electronics Chevrolet.
Geddie rounded out the top ten in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 652 points after 11 top five finishes and 15 top ten finishes in 16 races. Geddie drove the Geddie Tree Service Chevrolet to a ninth-place finish on Saturday night at Hattiesburg Speedway to net one point.
Other NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division Week 27 action saw Michael Williams of Saucier, MS driving the Williams Race Cars Chevrolet powered by a Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine to his first victory of the season on Saturday night at Hattiesburg Speedway. Phillip Haynes of Anniston, AL drove the Jeff Owens & Associates Chevrolet to his second win of the season on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.
In 2014 a total of 298 different drivers earned points in 115 NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division races at 12 different tracks in five different states. A total of 44 different drivers won series races in 2014.
