St. Francois County Raceway, Farmington MO (5/28/2015) – WOW, Sprint car racing was back at SFCR, just like the Glory Days! 40 sprint cars packed the pits; we ran a B Main in Sprints for the first time in a long time tonight! A new track record was set; Danny “The Dude” Lasoski set a blistering new track record of 10.794, shattering the previous low 11s track record set by Jason Keith just a few years ago. The first annual Bull Ring Round UP was a huge success, also racing Thursday night were the B Mods, Pure Streets and the UMP A Mods! Eighty six cars were in the pits and fans from all over the nation in the stands. And, for the first time ever races from SFCR were broadcast worldwide LIVE via the internet. Big thanks to www.speedshifttv.com for broadcasting live. Also if you missed the race you can click right over to their website and watch the event for just $9.95! Another first for the raceway, we joined the ranks of Twitter and Instagram, so if you are a social media junkie follow us @sfcraceway.

Mother Nature was a little kinder this week. I think we surprised her with a Thursday night show, but by the end of the day she tried her best to end the race night but she didn’t make it. With all the week’s rain, we were given another heavy track. It made for fast race cars, evident by that new track record, but it made for a narrow track. The race was running long Thursday night and the radar was looking a little green, normally as a track promoter you would skip intermission and move straight to the main events. But not tonight! With the National Sprint Car Series being in town, 40 sprint cars and 48 more racers and packed stands, Brian wanted to have the best track possible, so they took that intermission to bring out the grader and move the cushion up against the wall. It was a bold move, something many promoters wouldn’t dream of, but he was willing to gamble and it paid off BIG! The feature events proved it was the right call, lots of passing and lots of exciting racing.

The pure streets were the first to hit the track the winner the past two weekends Karl Francis won his heat race, midway thru the feature Neel and Francis would get together and Francis would end up with the worst end of the stick and eventually left the track which left Jason Neal and Robbie Williams to duke it out with Robbie Williams once again returning to Victory Lane.

The running order was switched up some during the night, the UMP modified had been running second all night, they were a lot of drivers there competing for UMP points and a nice little pay check of $1000 for the winner. But for the feature they ran third, now if you were a race fan, the night was getting late this call probably wasn’t popular. If you were an A Mod driver this probably put a big smile on your face. Combine the grader work at intermission and how the big right rears on those 410 wing sprint cars work the track, which meant you were going to have a really good racing surface. We saw some new comers at SFCR in the A Mods Josh Tomlin and Shawn Knuckles came into SFCR and put on a great show in the heat races. First time at the track, at least this season and picking up a heat win. As the running order was switched so the NSL series could get the BIG SHOW in, the A Mods not only had to battle themselves they had to battle Mother Nature. A light mist started just after mid way and water and dirt make makes thing slippery. A late race caution bunched the field back up, something Griffaw didn’t want to see, because it gave Billy Smith that chance to pass him for the lead. While Billy looked and tried to pass him, he didn’t have enough to make the pass and had to settle for second place. But the big talk of the night is the Festus Flash, or Flyer as race announcer Mike Crow likes to call him, came in and just swept the competition, taking home his heat, race the dash and feature wins and that cool $1000 pay check for the night!

B Mods to staging, B Mods to staging that familiar call from our race announcer, some of you may have heard it for the first time. Did you hear that? Work was done this week to the sound system; speakers were fixed and added to the pits. Improvements will continue, but it is a breath of fresh air to see all the amazing changes at the track. B Mods to Staging,,, they ran forth in the running order all night, only 11 drivers showed up Thursday evening to race, that is means 45% class were at work, or sitting in the stands watching. Again this week Dusty Homan came out and won his heat race, many of the fans have been calling him out on social media, but he kept his foot the floor, is he unstoppable? I am sure there are 19 other weekly drivers that think he is. Eddie Gross and Greg Swaringim put on some great racing at the front trading spots, Eddie Gross won the heat race and Swaringim winning when it counted and took home a feature win, one has to wonder is the car still for sale?

The National Sprint Car League came to Farmington to put on the best show in the Midwest. The track labeled the show as the 1st Annual Bull Ring Round Up, while the NSL series labeled it as The March across Missouri. It didn’t work out so well for the race fans in Moberly MO, for Friday night’s show was rained out. There is so much racing action to cover, I am sure I will miss some as I always do. It was exciting to see so much fast action on the track, tickled to be in the stands to watch The Dude blister out a new track records. Racing action was tight each heat race of 10 cars, making the 3/8 of mile lap in the low 11 second range, your head was spinning keeping up. The stands were full of buddies placing wagers with each other, would it be one of the heavy hitters from the NSL or one of the local drivers. If you listened around you would hear both sides. If you follow the Sprint Car Racing news, you know that the NSL is a new series this year, but you have no doubt hear of the World of Outlaws and the legendary PA Posse, this week in all the media hype someone named the drivers that race right here in our own back yards in Farmington, MO as the MO Posse. Sometimes we take for granite the gift we have to have SFCR racing 410 sprints weekly. So back to the story, who will it be? Well after the four heat races were done it was split you still had no idea, the MO Posse took two races and the NSL thugs took two. Heat Race #1 Local Joey Boyd held off hard charging Terry McCarl to put a tick in the win column for the local racers, Heat Race #2 saw NSL racer Paul Nienhiser take the checkered flag, local racer Ryan Kempkin had some bad luck after the leaders took the checkered, he was exiting turn 2 coming back around to take his final lap when he got tire to tire with another car and ended the race on his top. Not hurt and able to put on a new wing, Ryan would start and finish 4th in the B Main. Heat Race #3 was taken by NSL driver Tim Kaeding, followed closely by local driver Joey Montgomery, this put Montgomery to in the A main but he was unable to capitalize on it and pulled out of the race early, Heat Race #4 was stacked with local drivers finshing 1, 2, 3 and 4 with Tommy Worley and Joe B Miller making the A Main, while record setter NSL driver Danny Lasoski was stuck in 5th, which was good enough to make it to the main, but he wasn’t able to make any passes to contend for the win. The B main is the last chance for drivers to make it to the big show, so you always know it is going to be some series elbows up racing. Big names like Brain Clausen, Brook Tatnell and Austin McCarl were all in the B trying to make it in, unfortunate for Austin McCarl he ended his night upside down at the exit to turn three. Tasker Phillips also took a tumble Thursday night during qualifying laps; both drivers were okay and walked away. By the main event of the NSL Series 410 winged sprints my ears were ringing, it’s been a long time since SFCR has seen that many sprints start the feature it was exciting you could feel the thump of all those massive power plants beating in your chest. It was time to start and local racer, Jerrod Hull was out to an early lead. It appeared like no one had anything for him. But don’t count your money at the table as Kenny Rogers used to sign, 19 other drivers on the track were all looking to take the spot. Part way in the race something would happen that would later turn out to change the race leader, Ryan Kempkin in the 2K car spun in turn 4, not having any where to go, race leader, Hull would tag Kempkins car, breaking the Jacobs Ladder. After the restart, it looked like Hull would be okay, but it didn’t take Danny Lasoski long to sniff out the weakness in his competitors car and capitalize on it. The dude would go on to win the 1st annual Bull Ring Round up at SFCR! Racing action wasn’t just up front, although hard to keep up with, with 20 raging bulls on the track, any where your could focus your eyes you were getting the treat of your life, well at least a highlight of 2015! The top 5 of the main event backed up the claim of the Missouri Posse taking home 2 of those positions were Jerrod Hull and Tommy Worley, even with broke equipment Hull was able to hold off heavy hitters such as Brad Loyet, Ian Madsen, Brian Brown and more. We are certainly our proud of our local drivers for showing up and doing so well. We also thank the NSL Series for coming to town and putting on a great show, we hope to see you back soon, remember we race here every Saturday night, you are always welcome!

Some off track action was equally exciting, Social Media is everywhere in our society today and while some of us hate it, others embrace it. Remember just hours before we the race night started SFCR entered into the Twitter world, two tweets from NASCAR drivers mentioned @sfcraceway. I know not everyone will share the excitement, but you should. Kenny Wallace, tweeted about our track and local racer Billy Smith. Here we are in small town America, not only do we have some of the biggest names in Sprint Car racing at our local track but Kenny Wallace is talking about us on Twitter, thank you Billy and Kenny! Not taking anything away from the Wallace mention, but Hendrick Motorsports driver Kasey Kahne also mentioned @sfcraceway in a tweet along with local driver Jerrod Hull when he said, “@NSLSeries @sfcraceway I'm going with Jerrod Hull. I did a lot of racing with Jerrod in 1999 and 2000. I got him to win it..” St. Francois County Raceway was in the National Spot Light this week! It is so exciting to have such a great local track, with awesome drivers!
