CARTERSVILLE, GA – With five weeks to go in the 27-week 2015 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Presented By AR Bodies season, we have a point leader, Richie Stephens of Salem, AL, with a perfect 14 week total of 700 points, but he still has not clinched the National Championship. One driver still has a mathematical chance to win the title as the 23[sup]rd[/sup] week of season begins.
Week 23 of the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division season will see seven races at six tracks in four different states. Week 23 competition begins on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS.
The highlight of Saturday night NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division Week 23 action will be Double Features at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS. The first feature will be a Week 1 Make-Up Race, and the second feature will be the Week 23 Race. Also hosting Week 23 Saturday night races will be Duck River Raceway Park in Wheel, TN, Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS, Southern Raceway in Milton, FL and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.
Along with his perfect 700 points, Stephens also has 18 wins in 27 races. The only driver that can still mathematically challenge him for the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division National Championship is Brooks Strength of Raymond, MS, but he will need help from eligible tracks hosting Double Features in the last four weeks of the season.
Strength is currently third in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 688 points with ten wins in 17 races. Seven of those wins count towards his best 14 week point total, with the other three coming as double wins during a week of competition, but they do count in the tie-breaker.
Strength would need seven weekly wins to tie Stephens in the points, and then two more to win the tie breaker. That means Strength needs to win nine more races before September 27, provided Stephens does not win another race this season. If there are double features in the remaining five weeks of the season, that is a total of ten races.
With five weeks left in the season, and Jackson Motor Speedway hosting Double Features this week, at least one eligible track would have to host a double feature event in Weeks 24-27 to make up for a previous rainout for Strength to have a chance to win the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division title. To schedule a Double Feature event, tracks must meet a 12 noon Eastern time deadline to schedule for the upcoming weekend.
Currently between Stephens and Strength in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings in the second spot is Brandon Harris of Molino, FL with a best 14 week total of 689 points. Harris will be trying to net on a 47. Steve Pate of Heflin, AL is fourth with a best 14 week total of 668, and he will be trying to net on a 46.
Bo Bailey of Milton, FL is fifth in the standings with a best 14 week total of 662 points, and he will be trying to net on a 43. Larry Faulk of Monroeville, AL is sixth in the standings with a best 14 week total of 660 points, and he will be trying to net on a 44. Faulk was the 2014 NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division National Championship Runner-Up.
Jason Jarrell of Hattiesburg, MS is seventh in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 651 points, and he will be trying to net on a 43. Kevin Mitchell of Pensacola, FL is eighth with a best 14 week total of 649 points, and he will be trying to net on a 41. David Williamson of Seminary, MS is ninth with a best 14 week total of 643 points, and he will be trying to net on a 43.
Jay Geddie of Ellisville, MS rounds out the Top 10 and the final points fund-paying position in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 642 points, and he will be trying to net on a 42. There are several drivers in the second ten of the point standings that still have an opportunity in the final five weeks of the season to race their way into the Top 10.
Drivers in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division will compete against each other nationally using a points system that will count their best 14 weekly point totals over a 27-week season from March 23 through September 27.
