Putnamville, IN - May 27, 2017 - A. J. Hopkins won the Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car feature race Saturday night at the Lincoln Park Speedway. The “Memorial Weekend Special” was a real contest throughout. The race was not the typical quick 25 lapper as numerous incidents kept the tow and push trucks busy. Avoiding the next one added to the challenge of being fast enough to fend off movers from back in the pack.
A.J. Hopkins was up to the task. His car was fast and his experience as a regular at the track paid off. The victory was worth
$2,500 to the Danville, IN, driver. Hopkins took over the lead on the 10th lap but had close company and a challenge from Brady Short those remaining laps. Carson Short shot into second on the 24th lap.
Robert Ballou grabbed third. Brady Short would finish fourth during that shuffle at the front after a late race restart following a spin by Brandon Morin. Shane Cockrum was fifth.

The victory was the second for A. J. Hopkins in MSCS competition.
Both have been earned at the Lincoln Park Speedway. His DRC Sprint Car is sponsored by Nalon Race Engines, Banning Engineering, and Grass Roots. It is owned by Fred and Sandy Hopkins

Other race leaders during the feature include polesitter Jarett Andretti and Stevie Sussex. Hard luck prevailed in both cases.
Andretti led 5 laps before a broken axel ended his chances. Sussex led the next 4 laps and then brought out the yellow with a spin on lap 12. He restarted and finished 11th to take the Wilwood Tuff Brakes Award.

Jon Stanbrough led those drivers placing sixth through tenth. Dickie Gaines was seventh followed by Max McGhee, Brandon Mattox, and fourteen year old Jadon Rogers.
Max McGhee was the Keizer Aluminum Wheels Hard Charger of the Race with a gain of 12 spots.

Drivers dropping out of feature competition early included Chad Boesplug, Kevin Thomas Jr., and Kyle Cummins. Boespflug’s car exited on the hook with front end damage. Thomas was battling for the lead with two other cars when he was involved in an accident that sent his car bouncing into turn one bring out the only red flag for the event.
The yellow was displayed at least 6 times! Cummins dropped out after 12 laps.

Three heat races were held with Jarett Andretti, Shane Cockrum, and Chad Boespflug taking those wins, The redraw prior to the feature was a zero so the first heat winner started on the pole in straight up formation. Brandon Morin had led all qualifiers with a 13.286 lap!
Dickie Gaines came back to win the B Main.

After the Memorial Weekend events MSCS will next race on June 10th at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN. That feature will also pay
$2,500 to win. It is the “Summer Showdown” with the UMP Modifieds running for $1,000 to win.
