BEAR LAKE, PA – The momentum that Chub had on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series disappeared during a three-race weekend.

After a two-week break in action for the tour, Chub entered Friday night’s ‘Summer Sizzler 50’ at Virginia Motor Speedway just 10 points behind Steve Francis in the series standings. He had completely gone over his equipment during his time off and was primed to begin his second-half push for the title.

But Chub experienced one of those frustrating stretches of racing in which nothing goes right. He followed up an 11th-place finish at VMS with a 23rd on Saturday night at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway and a seventh on Sunday night at Eriez Speedway in Hammett, Pa.

“We just had a bad weekend,” said Chub, who ended the swing ranked third in the WoO LMS standings, 68 points behind leader Francis. “We were really looking forward to these shows after spending two weeks working in the shop, but things just didn’t go the way we would have liked.”

Chub’s woes began at Virginia Motor Speedway. He started strong by timing fifth-fastest in qualifying and winning a heat, but he missed the setup in the feature and fell from the fifth starting spot to an 11th-place finish.

Things got worse for Chub on Saturday night at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway. He was a disappointing 33rd-fastest in time trials and didn’t qualify in his heat, so he decided to pull out his second car and run it in the feature. A provisional starting spot got him into the field of the ‘60th Anniversary Classic’ in the 23rd starting spot, but after cracking the top 20 his Lester Buildings/Corry Rubber/All Star Performance/Corry Laser/Slavic Corporation/Farr MotorSports/Lake Shore Paving/Custom Race Engines Chevrolet Impala SS Rocket Chassis No. 1* slowed to the back of the pack on lap 16. He ran a few more circuits before retiring due to a fuel-pump rod problem, leaving him with a 23rd-place finish.

Returning to his old stomping grounds at Eriez Speedway on Sunday night for the first time in several years, Chub seemed ready to turn things around after timing third-fastest and winning a heat race. But he redrew the eighth starting spot for the 50-lap feature – and with passing being at a premium on the dry, slick oval, he could only improve one spot before the checkered flag.

“We’ll go back to the shop and try to regroup,” said Chub. “I’m not even looking at the points, they’re so bad after this weekend. We just have to keep racing and see what happens.”

Chub will compete in this week’s WoO LMS National Interstate Speedweek, which visits Attica (Ohio) Raceway Park on Wed., July 25; Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway on Thurs., July 26; Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, on Fri., July 27; and Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, on Sat., July 28.
