ELBRIDGE, NY (May 28) – When Steve Kinser led the final 15 laps to win Wednesday’s O’Reilly World of Outlaws Series "A" Feature, it was his eighth victory of the series’ 25th Anniversary Season and the eighth of his career at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park.

The defending and 17-time series champion passed pole-sitter Paul McMahan early in the 11th lap and beat Donny Schatz under the checkered flag by a straightaway for the 479th main event victory of his career. The $10,000 victory pushed "The King of the Outlaws" to within 41 points of leader Danny Lasoski in the standings.

"Once I got a little heat in the tires, I started to be able to move around a little bit and get going on the top or on the bottom," said Kinser, who had been winless at Rolling Wheels since 1995. "I was getting a pretty good run off the bottom of turn four, and I was able to get along side Paul and slide up in front of him. We struggled the last few times we were here, so it’s nice to run a little better. We ran pretty good in the heat, then made some changes for the dash, but we went back to what we had in the heat for the main."

Kinser, the fifth-fastest qualifier in the 35-car field, won the Second Heat Race. He earned the right to start the 25-lap "A" Feature inside the second row by following McMahan across the finish line in the First Dash Race.

McMahan, who won his third Dash Race of the season, drove the #11H Vivarin Maxim into the lead as the green flag fell in the main event. Jason Johnson, a former crewman on Kinser’s Quaker State team, passed "The King of the Outlaws" deep in turn two early in the opening lap.

Kinser came back to pass Johnson in the low groove in the first corner six laps later, only to have a caution nullify the move. Second Dash Race winner Brian Paulus, who battled McMahan for the lead through most of the first six laps, lost second place when the #28 Verdelli Farms Maxim spun in turn four late in the seventh lap.

"The King of the Outlaws" regained the third place with a high move between the first and second corners as the green flag replaced the yellow. Chuck Hebing brought out the caution flag early in lap eight when he spun in turn four.

Kinser steered his #11 Quaker State Maxim to the lowest point in the first corner to pass McMahan for the lead three laps later. Schatz passed Johnson for third place with an inside move into turn four later in the 11th lap.

"The King of the Outlaws" was 15 car-lengths ahead of McMahan when he entered lapped traffic two laps later. Schatz drove his #15 Parker Stores J&J past McMahan in the low groove between the third and fourth corners one lap later. Johnson and Lasoski passed McMahan for third and fourth place during laps 16 and 17.

Kinser maintained a comfortable advantage by racing through lapped traffic with ease, and took the checkered flag as Schatz raced through turn three.

Johnson’s third-place finish was the best of his O’Reilly World of Outlaws Series career. Lasoski finished fourth, ahead of McMahan, Joey Saldana, 12th-starting Daryn Pittman, Billy Pauch, Jason Meyers and Third Heat Race winner Craig Keel. Jeremy Campbell raced past eight cars to finish in 14th place.

Brian Carlson won a Heat Race in his second straight event, but a broken rear end forced him to settle for a 22nd-place finish in the "A" Feature.

Lasoski paced the qualifying session for the third straight race, driving NASCAR Winston Cup champion Tony Stewart’s #20 J.D. Byrider Eagle around the high-banked, 5/8-mile oval in 17.551 seconds – an average speed of 128.198 M.P.H. "The Dude" was .405 seconds faster than second-quick Daryn Pittman as he set quick time for the 11th time this season. WoO
