Tim Kaeding certainly has a knack for winning races when he’s lost someone special in his life.
Last year, Kaeding dedicated his February 24th World of Outlaws victory at Thunderbowl Raceway to his grandmother who passed away several days before. The passing of longtime Tom Rolfe Racing sponsor J.F. McCray was on Tim’s mind April 25th when he won for the 47th time at Silver Dollar Speedway.
“This one is for Joel McCray,” Kaeding said in victory lane. “Our team really appreciates everything he did for us. We’ll definitely miss him.”
Kaeding passed Willie Croft for the lead during a 12th-lap restart and held off Sean Becker for the victory. Forty-seven victories at the home of the Gold Cup Race of Champions puts “TK” one behind third-place Wayne Sue on Silver Dollar Speedway’s all-time list. Tim’s father, Brent Kaeding, is the leader with 86.
“TK,” who led the Golden State Challenge King of California Series and Silver Dollar Speedway point standings before returning to the World of Outlaws tour, was glad to be back in sunny California. Tom Rolfe Racing was scheduled to run World of Outlaws races at Huset’s Speedway and Knoxville Raceway April 25-26, but returned home when those races were postponed due to inclement weather.
“It feels good to come home and actually get to race,” Tim said. “We went back east for a few weeks and I think I was starting to grow some webbed feet with all the rainouts we had back there.”
Kaeding extended his winning streak the following night, putting together his first Golden State Challenge King of California Series victory of the year at Thunderbowl Raceway.
“TK” was leading with five laps remaining, only to have Tyler Walker and Jonathan Allard pass him. Kaeding, who received the National Sprint Car Poll’s “Wild Card” Award for exciting performances in 2007, was not to be outdone, however. He drove the #10 J.F. McCray Plastering Maxim back into the lead to claim the 35th Golden State Challenge King of California Series victory of his career.
“Man, that was fun,” Tim said in victory lane. “I hope you fans enjoyed that. The track was great tonight, and it was awesome to be able to race like that with those guys.”
