“7th Annual Masters" at Cedar Lake Speedway Up Next for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series gets back into the swing of things this coming Friday and Saturday, June 17 and 18 as the series heads for the first time to the Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI for the 7th Annual "Masters" event. Each night will be a point’s event for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and each night the feature will pay $10,000 to win. Saturday Night's main event will be taped for broadcast on ESPN2 and shown on a date and time to be announced. The "Masters" will be co-sanctioned with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series along with the World Dirt Racing League. Friday Night's events will utilize the WDRL race format and Saturday Night will be Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series format featuring Oval Craft Racing Aluminum Designs Time Trials, VP Fuels Makin' Power Heat Races, Mason Racin' Rebel Shock Dyno and PPM Racing Products B-Main and the Main Event. There will be a special practice session on Thursday Night June 16 for the Late Models after four divisions of Cedar Lake drivers have a race program.

In the previous "Masters" events at Cedar Lake, Wendell Wallace won the first one held back in 1999. Rick Aukland took the honors in 2000, Scott Bloomquist won in 2001 and Rick Eckert was the victor in 2002. Wallace became the only two time winner capturing the race in 2003 and last year for the first time the current format was used with two separate nights of racing with Earl Pearson, Jr. and Jimmy Mars capturing the "Masters" honors.

After 11 events held the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series has seen eight different winners with Don O'Neal leading the way with three wins. Terry English is the only other driver to score more than one win on the circuit in '05 as he has won twice. Other drivers who have appeared in victory lane for the series in '05 include: Tim McCreadie, Steve Shaver, Steve Francis, Jackie Boggs, Scott James and Jimmy Mars. O'Neal's wins include two at East Bay and the last point’s race held on June 4 at the Florence (KY) Speedway.

O'Neal currently leads the series standings with 1980 points. O'Neal in 2004 was the winningest dirt late model driver in the nation with 26 main event wins. English is in second place with 1845 points after 11 races. Third in the current standings is 4 time World 100 winner and Eldora Million winner, Donnie Moran with 1665 points. Just five points behind Moran is the new $100,000 Eldora Dream winner, Matt Miller, who has 1660 markers. Earl Pearson, Jr. after a strong finish at Florence makes his first appearance in the top five after recording a second place in the "Ralph Latham Memorial" at Florence on June 4. Pearson currently has 1640 points.

The rest of the top ten in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series point’s standings include the leading "Rookie of the Year" contender, Scott James, followed by Dennis Erb, Jr., Tim Dohm, Shannon Babb and Brady Smith. James, Dohm and Smith are the top three drivers in the "Rookie of the Year" battle.

Jimmy Mars is currently 11th in points followed by Freddy Smith, Steve Shaver and tie between John Mason and Steve Francis. Billy Drake, Edie Carrier, Jr., R.J. Conley, Darren Miller and John Gill round out the top twenty in points at the present time.
