Have you ever wanted your favorite dirt Late Model (DirtCar) driver serve YOU dinner and wait on you hand-and-foot? That idea will become reality on Saturday afternoon, October 16, in Knoxville,IA, as the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum will host a Celebrity Waiter Dinner & Auction in conjunction with the inaugural Stacker® Xtreme DirtCar Series “National Finals” at the Knoxville Raceway. Also, a portion of the proceeds of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum-benefit charity event will also aid the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame project.
According to Tom Schmeh of the National Sprint Car Museum, “We are very pleased to be hosting this charity event as part of Xtreme’s first ever appearance at Knoxville. We originally planned on having it on Wednesday evening, but after talking it over with several drivers, we think that Saturday afternoon will work best for the teams and fans. Our goal is to have twenty drivers each waiting on one table of eight hungry fans, raising money through tips and donations. After dinner, we will be hosting a live auction of unique, autographed memorabilia to raise additional funds for the two non-profit museums.”
Among the drivers that have indicated a preliminary interest in serving as celebrity waiters are Jimmy Mars, Brian Birkhofer, Ray Guss Jr., Chris Smyser, Ed Kosiski, Kyle Berck, and two former Knoxville dirt late model stock car feature winners, Curt Hansen (1977) and Gary Webb (1997). It is expected that half of the waiters will be from the Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series and half will be from the Midwest region, including Iowa and surrounding states. It is also anticipated that the line-up of celebrity waiters/drivers will be completely confirmed by July 15.
Late Model (DirtCar) drivers Lynn and Chris Richard of Richard Realty & Auction of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, will be the auctioneers. The first associate sponsor to be named for the fun, family-friendly dinner and auction, which will be held from 12 Noon until 2:30pm on the Knoxville-based museum’s second floor, is Hawkeye Racing News of Vinton,IA. Bill Holder of the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame in Florence, Kentucky, has also demonstrated that organization’s support of this unique fund-raiser.
The planning committee for the Celebrity Waiter Dinner & Auction includes volunteers Dan Doyle, Barry Johnson, Kathy Krafka-Harkema, Larry Janicsek and Lynn Richard. Tickets for the afternoon dinner are fifteen dollars apiece, and can be reserved by calling Denise Deaver at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum at 1-800-874-4488.
Xtreme DirtCars,Inc. will cap off their 2004 season with the three-day “Xtreme DirtCar National Finals” to be contested October 14 – 16 at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville,IA. The three-day affair is an open event matching the best of the national touring Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series against the best of the regional drivers of the Northern Xtreme DirtCar Series, Southern Xtreme DirtCar Series and Western Xtreme DirtCar Series and the top drivers in the DirtCarWeekly Series against all other competitors. The final event will pay out $35,000 to the winner of the 100 lap main event.
