When the Northern Xtreme DirtCar Series raceteams roll into Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville,OH and into Jim Nier’s KC Raceway near Chillicothe,OH this Friday and Saturday, respectively, the “local” raceteams at both facilities may have the advantage over the touring raceteams of the NXDCS.
Several factors could go the “locals” way this week-end. The Northern Xtreme DirtCar Series raceteams will compete for the first time this season at both race tracks. The “local” raceteams have plenty of laps on both tracks in early season action. And maybe most important; especially for the raceteams at Muskingum County Speedway whose drivers are part of the Xtreme DirtCar Weekly Series which mandates the Goodyear Eagle Racing Tire for competition. A tire they’ve got track time with that the NXDCS drivers do not have the track time with.
It certainly won’t be any easier for the NXDCS raceteams visit to Jim Nier’s KC Raceway. The drivers who have competed on the high-banks can hold they’re own against the best and know the “tricks” to get around the lightning quick track. It will be an upset if a “local” racer can topple the NXDCS contingent this week-end but certainly would be no surprise given the factors in favor of the race teams who call either track “home”.
NXDCS drivers Davey Johnson, Donnie Moran, John Mason, Dave Troutman, Bill Cunningham, Sonny Conley, Steve Casebolt and “Rookie of the Year” contenders D.J. Troutman, Sean Cosgrove, John Whitney and Richard Smith are all expected to be on hand to battle with the top local racers over the two-day swing.
M.C.S. owner/promoter Ron Moran will present the $7,000 to win "11th Annual Dunn/Hartman/Lutz/Tanner Memorial 50" Friday, May 28 at his semi-banked 3/8ths mile speedway. The visit to Muskingum County Speedway marks the 20th time for a Northern Xtreme DirtCar Series event at M.C.S. with 12 different drivers previously taking victories.
Defending event winner Donnie Moran has taken four previous wins at M.C.S. while Mike Balzano and Bart Hartman each have taken three previous checkered flags. Drivers with one win each are Davey Johnson, Steve Shaver, John Mason, Steve Francis, Rod Conley, Gary Stuhler, Freddy Smith, Larry Moore and Charlie Swartz.
Drivers expected to represent the upset minded Muskingum County Speedway group include early season winners Norm Aronhalt and Doug Dodd as well as Rob House, Chuck Maloney, Chad Hina, Greg Baumberger, Jeff Abrams, Pat Novaria, Jamey Miller, Brad Goff, Jason Hindel and Chuck Russell among others.
Pit gates at Muskingum County Speedway will open at 3:00pm, spectator gates at 4:00pm with warm-ups at 6:00pm, time trials at 6:30pm and racing beginning at 7:30pm. Joining the NXDCS on the racing program will be the M.C.S. Modifieds and Street Stocks. Adult general admission is $20.00, children 11 years of age and under $5.00 and pit admission is $35.00.
Jim Nier's KC Raceway located near Chillicothe,OH will host the $7,000 to win "11th Annual Night The Stars Come Out 50" Saturday, May 29. The Northern Xtreme DirtCar Series will be joined on the racing card by the All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Cars and the KC Raceway Hobby Stocks at the lightning quick high-banked 3/8ths mile track.
Looking to topple the NXDCS touring drivers and hold the “home turf” at KC Raceway include Aaron Bapst, Keith Berner, Scott Edmisten, Mark Fraizer, Tony Throckmorton, Shawn Holliday, Don Clark, Tim Sabo, and Mike Long plus more.
Davey Johnson copped the inaugural “The Night The Stars Come Out” event in 1994 while Donnie Moran turned the trick in 1995 and again in 2002. Other winners of the event include Steve Shaver in 1999, Steve Francis in 1997 and 2001 and Bart Hartman in 1998. The 1996 event fell to victim to rain as did the 2000 edition and last year’s scheduled event as well.
The stop at the south-central Ohio speedplant marks the 23rd time for a NXDCS sanctioned event at KC Raceway with ten different drivers having taken checkered flags. Donnie Moran leads the winners list with six previous triumphs while Rick Aukland has posted four triumphs and Davey Johnson three. Drivers with two previous wins at KC Raceway include Bart Hartman and Steve Francis while single tallies have gone to Steve Shaver, Chub Frank, Mike Balzano, Jackie Boggs and Darrell Lanigan.
