Dale McDowell of Chickamauga,GA scored his first World of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series sanctioned main event of the season Friday leading all the way in the $10,000 to win “Barry Chevrolet 50” at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex in Peebles,OH. Starting from the outside front row starting spot, “Mac Daddy” beat pole sitter Chub Frank into the first turn at the drop of the green flag and never looked back aboard the Larry Shaw Race Cars/J&J Steel No. 17M Dale McDowell Racing Rocket-Shaw/Racetek Pontiac Grand Prix.

2004 World of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series “Rookie of the Year” Tim McCreadie finished four car lengths behind McDowell for the runner-up pay with 18th starting Steve Francis third, Rick Eckert fourth and 10th starting Ricky Elliott fifth. Completing the top ten finishers were Josh Richards in sixth with Frank seventh followed by Darrell Lanigan, 17th starting Billy Moyer and 19th starting Mike Balzano.

McDowell seemed to be very happy to finally shake the mechanical gremlins that have plagued his early season. “We’ve had a little bit of a dry spell and some bad luck but that’s the way it goes. This deal is so competitive and there are so many good racers out there that if you can run in the top 5 or top 10 anymore that’s good. We won 6 or 7 of these races last year but its been a little tougher this year. I need to thank Larry Shaw Race Cars and Rocket Chassis and my engine builder Eric Cables of Racetek. And, most of all Shane. My brother Shane. He’s the crew chief and its just us two. For two guys it ain’t too bad. And I appreciate it.”

When asked how he liked racing at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex McDowell related, “I enjoyed this race, obviously. I look forward to coming back.”

McCreadie was very happy with his runner-up finish. “I think mother nature made this place pretty hammer down. It was a little tough to pass because the cushion ended up in the middle of the race track. The racing was as hard as you could drive a car. It’s tough to do that when you got a lot of guys around you but were fortunate enough where our car was pretty good. The outside spots on the restarts helped get us to the front. I don’t know if I had anything for Dale. At one point it looked like we leveled off with him a little bit but he just fired so good on the restarts. He don’t make mistakes when he’s out front like that. He’s a professional. So we’re happy to bring this Ann and Carl Meyers car home where its at.”

Francis was satisfied with his third place run though he did struggle early in the night. “We fought a fuel pressure problem early in the night. We changed the whole fuel system around on the race car and it took us a little bit to get it dialed in. Finally we got that straightened up but we never got the race car free’d up enough in the heat which got us starting way back. We got it real good for the “B” and it was pretty close there. Then we just put a little bit harder tire on it for the feature and went racing.”

The massive crowd on hand at the high-banked 3/8ths mile tri-oval came to their feet when the green flag dropped on the 24 car starting field. McDowell beat fellow front row starter Frank into turn one and immediately set sail pulling away from Frank and the rest of the field. Clint Smith sat third at the end of the first lap with McCreadie fourth and Lanigan fifth. Eckert broke into the top 5 on lap 3 when he notched Lanigan entering turn three.

McDowell entered lapped traffic one lap later putting the slower cars a lap down early in the event. Eckert was the car on the move as he picked off McCreadie and Smith on lap 11 to snare the third spot. The caution would wave the next lap when Smith and Scott Bloomquist both suffered engine problems dropping them from the event.

McDowell was no match for the rest of the field as he left them on the restart. Frank did not get a good restart falling from the runner-up spot to fifth by the time lap 13 was recorded. The caution would wave again on lap 15 when Ben Adkins slowed in turn 4. The restart saw McCreadie sail past Eckert for the runner-up spot. Lap 18 would see Elliott overhaul Frank for the fifth spot as McDowell raced alone in the lead. The yellow lights came back on at lap 24 when Ryan Markham spun in turn two.

At the halfway point McDowell held a comfortable lead over McCreadie with Eckert sitting third, Elliott fourth and Francis now fifth. Frank was sixth trailed by Richards, Davey Johnson, Lanigan and R.J. Conley. The top 10 run for Johnson came to and end at lap 33 when he slowed with mechanical woes.

Francis overhauled Elliott for the fourth spot once the race resumed setting sail for Eckert. Francis was able to move in on Eckert testing inside and outside. The pace would be slowed on lap 46 when R.J. Conley suffered a flat tire dropping him from the action.

McDowell again on the restart simply pulled away from McCreadie but Eckert now had his hands full with Francis. Exiting turn three Francis made a strong move to get past Eckert and try to gain some ground on McCreadie.

With one lap to go in the event, Barry Bragdon broke the right rear wheel on his car bringing out the caution. With WoO rules stating two consecutive green flag laps must be completed to finish the race the 50 lap main event went one extra lap. It didn’t matter to McDowell as he simply was no match for anyone else in the field.

NOTES: The first ever appearance of the World of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series at Brushcreek Motorsports Park was delayed nearly 2 hours when nearly 3” of overnight rain fell over the 3/8ths mile speedway. Track owner/promoter Tom Partin and his track crew did a Herculean effort getting the racing surface, pit area and parking areas into shape. A massive crowd enjoyed the fast paced action as all the World of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series events were held before any support divisions took to the speedway.
