Haubstadt, IN - May 9, 2017 - A full weekend of dirt track action awaits Tri-State Speedway fans. The green flag will unfurl Saturday night as the speedway hosts the Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series plus the first appearance this season of the Midwest Open Wheel Association Sprint Cars. The dual program will thus feature both brands of sprint cars and some of the best competitors “Midwest Madness” can provide.
MSCS will represent the more traditional form of sprint car racing by running a complete program of preliminaries and a feature without a wing. The MSCS feature will pay $2,500 to win! The MOWA Sprints will provide a separate program with their cars supporting a wing on top outlaw style. Then on Sunday night the World of Outlaws will be at the track for a make-up event with the supporting class consisting of mini sprints.
Everyone is reminded that the racing both nights will follow a different time line than normal. The pit gate will open at 2:00 in the afternoon. The grandstands will open at 3:30 Central Time. Warm ups begin at 5 o’clock with racing to follow at 6:30 P.M. Everything is set for an hour earlier than normal. Patrons are advised to arrive extra early so you do not miss any of the action. The goal of speedway management is to get everyone out and on the way home early to rest up for the next day’s event or the work week ahead.
With the MSCS Series out of action for 3 weekends because of the vast amount of rain this Spring, drivers will be anxious to get back behind the wheel. There are still 13 races left on the 2017 schedule. Of the 36 licensed drivers 29 have already seen action.
This weekend will be the first opportunity for some MSCS drivers to rejoin the pack.
The Midwest Sprint Car Series Points Title Chase is only 13 percent complete. The standings have not changed since Jarett Andretti took over the lead following the MSCS-USAC co-sanctioned race on April 15th. His lead is a mere 2 points. Brady Short and Carson Short are right behind Andretti in the current standings. Brady and Carson are actually tied in season points heading to Haubstadt and also have an eye on the 2017 series championship. Brady Short is the defending MSCS Champion.
Racing is a sport of opportunity. It’s not only about speed but being in the right place at the right time. That could involve the position of a racer’s car on the track when something unexpected happens. It also involves choices beginning with setting up the car.
Choices also involve when and where to race! This is the second of
9 opportunities for drivers following MSCS to race at the Tri-State Speedway. The track has been providing opportunities to race and watch racing in the Tri-State area for 60 years.
MSCS has held two feature events this season. Thomas Meseraull won the “Racin’ Fest” to open the season at Lincoln Park. Chris Windom won the “Spring Showdown” a week later at Tri-State Speedway. In the last 12 MSCS races to be held at Haubstadt, Kyle Cummins leads an exclusive group of five winning drivers with 5 feature victories.
Chase Stockon is next highest in the recent feature victory column with 3 timely wins.
