Bardstown, KY-August 28, 2010- The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series would make its annual visit to Bluegrass Speedway on Saturday evening for the 10th Annual Bluegrass Classic and Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN would lead all 50 laps en route to his second win in the Bluegrass Classic event, having previously won the race in 2003. Other feature winners for the evening included Shane Lafollette of Hodgenville, KY in UMP Street Stocks and Billy Meredith of Hodgenville, KY in WBRT 1320-AM UMP Sportsman.

Don O’Neal and Scott Bloomquist would bring the 26 car starting field to chief starter Brian Axsom’s green flag, with O’Neal jumping to the race lead, followed by Mike Marlar, Scott Bloomquist, Brady Smith, and Jimmy Owens. Bloomquist would take second on lap 2, while Steve Francis would make his way to fifth. Owens would work by around Francis for fifth on lap 4 as Marlar began to pressure Bloomquist for second. Marlar would take second from Bloomquist on lap 6 as O’Neal began to build a comfortable lead. Meanwhile, 13th starting Tim Isenberg was charging toward the front and would take fifth from Owens in a three-wide battle with Francis as well on lap 9. The first caution of the race would fly for a spin by Scott James on lap 11, wiping out O’Neal’s lead. The restart would see the upstart Isenberg go to third past Bloomquist, while 11th starting Brian Birkhofer would take the fifth position. With Marlar pressuring O’Neal for the lead, Bloomquist would challenge Isenberg for the third position and would take the spot on lap 16. Birkhofer’s charge was not yet done as he would drive around Isenberg for the fourth spot on lap 20 as the leaders began to work slower traffic. The second caution of the event waved on lap 22 when Eric Wells would roll to a stop on the backchute. Back underway, O’Neal and Marlar would continue to battle for the lead, while Isenberg would go back to fourth, only to the spot back to Birkhofer on lap 23. Brady Smith would work his way back into the top five after getting around Isenberg on lap 27, while O’Neal and Marlar were pulling away from Bloomquist. The third caution of the race waved on lap 34 when Isenberg would get sideways entering turn one and Francis would get collected in the melee as well. After a short red flag period to get the two tangled machines separated, action would resume with Marlar nipping at O’Neal’s heels for the lead, while Birkhofer would challenge Bloomquist for third. Caution would fly for the fourth time in the event on lap 38 when Dan Schlieper would make heavy contact with the turn three wall, ending his night. The restart would see Birkhofer get by Bloomquist for third off of turn two, while O’Neal and Marlar would again scoot away from the field. The final caution of the event flew on lap 43 when Tim Tungate’s mount would roll to a stop in turn two. The final restart would see O’Neal maintain the race lead and actually put a bit of distance back to Marlar to take the victory in the Independence Lumber/Superior Cleaning/Jones Core sponsored #71 MasterSbilt Race Car, Jay Dickens powered machine. Marlar, Birkhofer, Bloomquist, and Smith would complete the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be 14th starting Ray Cook, Brad Neat, 15th starting Dale McDowell, Jimmy Owens, who would pit for a flat tire and go tail on the field on the lap 11 caution, and 23rd starting Earl Pearson, Jr.

In preliminary action, O’Neal would be the overall top qualifier at 14.772 seconds and win his heat, while other heat winners were Marlar, Bloomquist, and Smith. Scott James and Shane Clanton were B-Main winners, while series provisionals went to Pearson, Jr. and Schlieper, while track provisionals were Jeff Watson and Lee Devasier.

The 12 lap UMP Street Stock main event would see Shane Lafollette get by Mark Filiatreau around the mid-point of the event, with Lafollette holding off the charges of Scott Beeler to capture the feature event win in the division aboard the David Copley owned Advance Auto Parts/Larue Insurance/Geneva’s Florist and Gifts/K&K Flower Shop/Select Designs/Henry Miller #1 U.K. Fan sponsored #63 Ford Thunderbird. Beeler would take second, followed by Filiatreau, Fred Mercer, and Adam Burch. Heat race wins would go to Filiatreau and Beeler.

Billy Meredith would take the lead at the drop of the green flag on the 15 lap WBRT 1320-AM UMP Sportsman main event and would never lose the top spot on his way to his second win of the season in his Easy Trucking/Elite Auto Group/Parkway Service Center/Cabin Creek Farms sponsored #25 Chevy Monte Carlo. Robbie Settles would challenge Meredith late in the event, but would settle for second, followed by Roger Cecil, Avral Thompson, and Rob Jones. Heat race victories would fall to Meredith and Jones.
