At the end of last year, it was announced that Farmer City Raceway would be hosting a “major” dirt late model event. That event is Friday, May 31, with the running of the 1st Annual UMP “Tri-State Challenge” series, paying the largest winners’ share in Farmer City history- $10,000. The series moves to I-55 Raceway in suburban St. Louis Saturday, and the Terre Haute Action Track Sunday. If a driver can win 2 of the 3 races, they will cash a $10,000 bonus.

The 3-race series, all paying $10,000 to-win, is expected to attract some of the nations’ finest drivers. Billy Moyer of Batesville, AR has agreed to race, offering Central Illinois race fans their first 2003 view of the 5-time “World 100” champion. Bill Frye of Greenbriar, AR, Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN, John Gill of Mitchell, IN, Bart Hartman of Zanesville, OH, Wendell Wallace of Batesville, AR, Ed Dixon of Washington, MO, Shannon Babb of Mowequa, and UMP National Champion Terry English of Benton, KY all have indicated their intentions to compete.

Illinois drivers expected include Bob Pierce of Oakwood, Kevin Weaver of Gibson City, Dennis Erb, Jr. of Carpentersville, Randy Korte of Highland, Billy Drake of Bloomington, Roger Long of Oakwood, Joe Ross, Jr. of Springfield, Richie Hedrick of Urbana.

The UMP “Summernationals” format will be in effect, with the tracks having the choice of 7,8, or 9 cars in the dash. The UMP Modifieds and Sportsman divisions will also be in action.

Time trials begin at 7 PM, with racing at 7:30. Admission is $20 for adults, with children under 11 admitted free. Pit passes are $25.
