Event Preview for October 1st

The Super Late Model “Hurricane 30” Rescheduled for This Saturday Night October 1st!

COLUMBUS, MS-The 4th Annual “Hurricane 30” will take place this Saturday night October 1st at Columbus Speedway at 7pm as the racing season is ramping up to the climatic Magnolia State 100 that is less than 2 weeks away. The main event of the evening will see the Super Late Models going 30 laps for $1,500 to win in the “Hurricane 30” with strong field of drivers expected to be on hand. Many of the area drivers should be competing in the “Hurricane 30” this Saturday night vying for the $1,500 first place prize while getting valuable track time for the upcoming $20,005 to win Magnolia State 100 coming October 7th and 8th. The “Hurricane 30” event format will see Super Late Model drivers be challenged by the 3/10’s- mile high banked during MidSouthRacing.com Pole Qualifying setting the field; followed the 30-lap main event.

The Super Late Model race will also be a Weekly Racing Series event and a Columbus Speedway point’s event for the division which currently has “The Weirwolf” Tombo Callahan holding the lead over Shawn Edwards with Mike Boland in third place. Completing the top five in points is MSCCS Rookie of the Year Ronny Lee Hollingsworth with 2005 MSCCS Champion David Breazeale in fifth who is also the defending “Hurricane 30” champion. Other past champions of the “Hurricane 30” include Anthony Rushing in 2003 and Steve Russell in 2002. Adding to the drama is the fact that there have been 12 different winners in the 12 Super Late Model races held at Columbus Speedway this season where competition and different drivers taking their turn up front has been the norm.

The Columbus Speedway local divisions will be in action as part of the Columbus Speedway Weekly Racing Series with the makings for a strong field of cars and great racing in all divisions. The Late Model Stock division will have single lap Pole Qualifying this week plus there has been a $50 bounty put on Mini Stock driver Allen Gilreath who has reeled off three wins in a row, including the win Saturday night September 17th in a strong showing over a 16-car field of Mini Stocks.

Weekly Racing Series division championship title chases are still being fought for as well with the current points leader’s in each respective division being Lee Ray – Open Wheel Modifieds, Ruble Maxey – Late Model Stock, Danny Gable – Street Stock, Stanley Busbin – Mini Stock, John Beard – 2 –Person Cruisers, and Roger Wright III – Hot Shots.

Racing action in the area will continue with the Hurricane 30 and the Night of Champions featuring a $1,500 to win Magnolia State 100 prep race for the Super Late Model and all local divisions on Saturday night October 1st. All events are leading up to the big one, the $20,005 to win 16th Annual Magnolia State 100 and Premier Ford Magnolia State Championships on October 7th and 8th.

Event information for Saturday Night October 1st includes student and military pricing with ages 11-18 admitted in the grandstands for $10. Adult admission is $12 with children ages 10 and under admitted free. Lawn chairs and coolers are welcome as always, and for added convenience radios can be tuned to FM 88.5 to listen to the Columbus Speedway broadcast. Gates open at 5pm with racing at 7pm. Pit Gates open at 4pm with the driver’s meeting at 6:00pm and hot laps at 6:30pm. Pit passes are $25.
