2010 NeSMITH CHEVROLET WEEKLY RACING SERIES SEASON OPENS THIS WEEKEND

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season opens with 13 events in the East and West Regions this Friday and Saturday nights. Drivers at each NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series track will compete for both a track point fund and a Regional point fund. The NeSmith Chevrolet WRS season will run through October 3.

There will be a total of 19 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series sanctioned tracks for their Dirt Late Models powered by the GM Performance 604 and 602 Crate Engines. The East Region will feature eight sanctioned tracks and the West Region will expand to 11 sanctioned tracks for 2010.

Each NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Regional Champion will pocket $1,500 in point fund money, and a new GM Performance 604 Crate Engine.

Returning tracks in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region are Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL, Mountain Raceway Park in Maryville, TN, Penton Raceway in Penton, AL, and East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL.

New NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region for 2010 are New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA, 441 Speedway in Dublin, GA, Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL, and Shelby County Speedway in Wilsonville, AL.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region will have eight tracks returning in 2010 with Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS, Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR, Central Mississippi Speedway in Winona, MS, Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS, Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS, Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS, Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS, and Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS.

North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL, Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, and A1 Raceway in Slidell, LA are the three new tracks in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region for 2010.

The 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region points chase begins this Friday night at Penton Raceway. Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region action will be held at East Alabama Motor Speedway, 441 Speedway, Flomaton Speedway, Mountain Raceway Park, New Senoia Raceway, Shelby County Speedway, and Talladega Short Track.

The 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region action begins this Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park. Week 1 Saturday night West Region NeSmith Chevrolet WRS events will be held at A1 Raceway, Central Mississippi Speedway, Pike County Speedway, and Whynot Motorsports Park.

Six NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region tracks will open for points competition in the coming weeks. Batesville Motor Speedway and North Alabama Speedway will open for WRS action on April 9. Jackson Motor Speedway and Columbus Speedway will open for WRS points on April 17. Magnolia Motor Speedway will host its first WRS points event on April 24, and Greenville Speedway begins it 2010 points season on May 1.

A driver’s Regional point total will be based on their best 16 point nights during the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series 2010 season that runs from Friday night through October 3. A driver can also earn up to 150 Regional bonus points by participating in NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring events during the WRS season.

Each driver that participates in a NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring event between Friday night and October 3 will receive 25 bonus points that will be added to their home Region best 16 point night totals for each event up to six National Touring events.

The first two NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Touring events drivers can earn NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series bonus points will be on April 9 at Greenville Speedway and on April 10 at Jackson Motor Speedway.

The defending and three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion is Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS. Keeton will be looking for his fourth West Region title in the last five seasons. Keeton won the West Region title in 2009, 2007, and 2006. Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS was the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region Champion.

Scott Knowles of Lanett, AL is the defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Champion. Former NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Champions are Adam Martin of Talladega, AL in 2008, Logan Yates of Delta, AL in 2007, and Jason Wilson of Margaret, AL in 2006.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Regional point system has changed for 2010. The total number of bonus points has been raised to 150. Tracks with eight or more cars at an event will award 50 points for a win, with a one point increment back to 41 points for tenth and finishing positions through the rest of the main event field.

At tracks with a car count of less than eight at an event will award 40 points for a win, with a one point increment through the rest of the main event field. Drivers that attempt to compete in a preliminary race at any event, but fail to make the main event will be awarded 25 points.
