The 2017 Tri-City Speedway Late Model Tire Rule will be as Follows:

Opening Night thru May 31st:
RR - Hoosier L/M 40 ONLY, Grooving & Siping Allowed.
LR, LF & RF - Hoosier L/M 20 or L/M 40 Grooving & Siping Allowed.

June 1st thru July 30th:
RR - Hoosier L/M 40 ONLY, NO Grooving or Siping Allowed.
LR, LF & RF - Hoosier L/M 20 ONLY! Grooving & Siping Allowed.

July 31st thru the remainder of the year:
RR - Hoosier L/M 40 ONLY, NO Grooving or Siping Allowed.
LR, LF & RF - Hoosier L/M 20 ONLY, NO Grooving or Siping Allowed.

This should provide an ample burn off time for all competitors.

We are staying with the 1 compound rule for the RR, Hoosier L/M 40 instead of the
3 compound rule Hoosier L/M 20, 30 or 40. This should be a savings of about
$326 by not allowing the 20 or 30 on the RR!

Thanks & See You at the Races,
Kevin

Many thanks to Kevin at Tri-City and Matt Curl at Fairbury for spearheading discussion over the off-season with promoters in an attempt to create a unified tire rule for weekly racing in the Super Late Model division. Having been semi-involved in these ongoing discussions, it became apparent that securing lasting peace in the Mideast would be much more likely than having a single rule that had the support and endorsement of everyone.

What you will be seeing throughout Illinois and the area over the next several days are rules that look different by track - but which collectively still significantly cut down on the total number of tires racers will need to own for weekly competition - and hopefully a serious reduction in time required each week to cut tires. The burn-off period is perhaps longer than some of us would want but there are reasons why it makes sense when you look at the entire Summer schedule. If you look past the burn-off period to the end result for the later part of the season and for future years, what you will see - regardless of track - is something along the lines of the following:

- One tire option for 3 corners of the race car (LM-20) with no cutting.
- Track options for an uncut RR.

Some tracks will allow 20-30-40 on RR, some like Tri-City will be 40 only on RR. Others like Quincy will be 30-40 RR. Local conditions and racer preference prevented us from agreeing to all 4 corners, but I think with uniformity on 3 corners - especially when we are no longer cutting tires - is a big step in the right direction. Chances are you will still carry 20-30-40 in the trailer for the right rear if you race several tracks regularly. But those will be uncut and you will only be carrying 20's no matter where you race for a weekly show for the other corners.

Matt Curl put in a tremendous amount of time and effort playing statesman and negotiator. Kevin wasn't too far behind in leading this effort. The end result might not be a single rule... but it's a much better rule than we had before. I'm sure there will be plenty of naysayers as always but I'm confident that there will be savings in both money and time for the weekly racer that chooses to race at more than one track, while still allowing for great competition. Thanks to all involved.
