2nd ANNUAL NASCAR LEGENDS HELPING LEGENDS SET FOR JANUARY 19th BENEFITTING SAM ARD

SECOND ANNUAL LEGENDS HELPING LEGENDS SET FOR JANUARY 19
FUNDRAISER WILL BENEFIT NASCAR LEGEND SAM ARD
(Mooresville, NC)
The Second Annual Legends Helping Legends Fundraiser is
scheduled for Saturday, January 19, 2008 from 10 a. m.- 4 p.m. at
Memory Lane Motorsports & Automotive Historical Museum in Mooresville, NC.
This year’s event will benefit the medical fund established for Sam Ard,
the 1983-84 NASCAR Busch Series Champion. Ard won hundreds of races during his storied career, including 22 races NASCAR Busch Series events in only 92 starts.
Ard’s 10 wins in 1983 is a single season Busch Series record that still
stands today.
However, his career was tragically ended by life-threatening injuries suffered in a 1984 crash at Rockingham.
In recent years, Ard has been battling a foe more treacherous than any he
ever face on the race track: Alzheimer’s Disease.
Physicians have said it is likely Sam’s crash 23 years ago speeded the onset of the debilitating disease.
With no pension plan in place for NASCAR drivers, the affliction has created both a physical and financial hardship for Ard and his wife, Jo.
Hopefully, the Second Annual Legends Helping Legends Fundraiser will, at
least in part, alleviate some of the Ard family’s financial burden.
Last year’s event for former racing announcer Bill Connell was a huge success that helped to defray some of the medical bills incurred by Connell due to complications of chronic diabetes.
The Legends Helping Legends of Racing fundraiser promises to be one of the
most exciting and fun-filled events of the year for race fans of all ages.
It’s an all-day happening that will bring fans up close and personal with
drivers and cars they aren’t likely to see anywhere else.
More than 50 racing celebrities were on hand to greet fans and sign
autographs at last year’s gathering with more expected for the upcoming
event.
The $8 admission will include a tour of the museum—which houses well over
150 vintage NASCAR racers, sprint cars, drag cars, antique autos and special interest vehicles—as well as a chance to visit with the dozens of drivers, crew chiefs and mechanics from racing’s past and present who will be participating in this landmark gathering.
Events such as 50/50 raffle, auction, drawing for door prizes, a vintage
race car show (weather permitting) with one of Ard’s actual race cars and
much more will take place throughout the day.
Make your plans to attend this historical racing event.
A special motorcycle ride from Tilley Harley Davidson in Statesville to
Memory Lane will be held in conjunction with the Legends Helping Legends of Racing fundraiser.
Call Vickie Kress at Tilley 704-872-3883 for Details.
Harry Gant, Don Tilley, and Buddy Parrott lead last year’s ride.
Food will be provided by John Boy & Billy's Grillzilla.
