305 Sprint Car Class

Modified Racer
Ok this thread is not intended to turn into a LM/Modified versus Openwheel thing. So please try not to turn it to that but I've been doing a little reading on these 305 Sprints that are running in PA, IA, KS, and TX. They are basically a sprint car with a 305 in it that you can't do a whole lot to. I found an article on the Midwest 305 Sprints that run in Iowa. I believe theres a class of them running at I-44 also.

Here's an article on them:

and here is a link to their rules:

I enjoy all racing forms but this looks like a nice class that one of our local tracks could take a chance on. Swap them out with a modified class somewhere. That is not to put down the Mod guys but just for variety sack. Every track in MO and IL run Mods so for one track to run something else would not hurt the Modified class one bit. They are as affordable as an IMCA modified, so it says. And if you wanted to make them even cheaper then run them WINGLESS. But of course the landing is a little rougher then. :D

Just wondering what people thought about this class as a possible new class in the area.

I run a RAMS ministock right now to get my feet wet and because it's affordable but I am looking to move up one day. Honestly I'll move up to what I can afford whether it be a IMCA Mod or whatever but a 305 Sprint shoulds like the class I've been waiting for.

I was just happy to see someone finally make a Sprint Car class that is a little more affordable.

Looks like fun. Hurry up and get that thing together. We'll race the S-10 Friday @ Fredricktown and the 305 sprint Saturdays @ I-44.:D

For that to happen you'd have to get Larry to helping us real quick. What do you think Opnwhlmnd :D :D

you crazy wheel if it aint got a full body I'm not sitting in it guess I'm a chiken s*h*i*t but they flip to much for this white boy!!!

I'll stick to my PINTO's but I think they would go over something new as long as they keep it cheap I heard one of my freind that just built a IMCA car and he thinking of going to this class if it come around:D

The I-44 305 class has clutches and starters. Can you say broken ankles?

Also they only have 16 sq ft wings.

The rule I don't understand is why have a very limited class but no right rear tire rule.

A limited 350 engine would be as cheap to build as a 305. With stock cranks getting more rare to find why not let use aftermarket as long as it's not lightened. No horsepower gain there.

I know the guy who techs that class Joe Todd. If you need the rules from him let me know and I'll get his number for you.

The good thing is there is lots of old used sprint cars around that would work great for this class.

It would be tough to build a new one that weighs 1425. If you just use basic parts on market right now the car should come out weighing around 1350-1375 with the all steel engine.

I'll help ya Wheel21. I have 4 frame kits sitting here collecting dust.

UH OH, be prepared to put the nose in the air. I've seen the way Larry can hook a car up. I don't think Rodney had more than 3 tires on the ground at any time in the feature Saturday night @ SFCR. Should be pretty easy on front tires.:D

I think I saw these cars run at Sedalia this spring with the WOW 360's. They sound like a real sprint when at idle, but they were very slow, almost like a street stock. Not much fun to watch.

The 305's don't run at Sedalia any more. The class you saw was the MSCS Sprints. They run a 358 motor with carb no injectors they must have a starter I believe. 305 Sprints run at LA Raceway and Springfield on a regular basis and go to I-44 and Bolaver abount once a month.
