CARTERSVILLE, GA – The $3,000-to-win No Till 50 at Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN is next up for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division this Saturday night. Round 16 of the 2014 season will feature a star-studded field of series regulars and NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series favorites.

Saturday night will mark the third annual trip to Clayhill Motorsports for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series, and the winners of the first two races know that a win in this race can make a difference in one’s career and in one’s season.

Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL came into Clayhill Motorsports two years ago as the reigning NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Rookie of the Year, but was in a slump that was beginning to weigh heavy in his sophomore season. It was in the Clayhill Motorsports race in 2012 that Edge broke out and picked up his first career series win in convincing fashion.

Going into this year’s race at Clayhill Motorsports, Edge has found that same magic, as he picked up his second career NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series win on July 4 at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL, and then followed that up with a Fast Time Award and second-place finish the next night at Arkadelphia Speedway in Bremen, AL.

Tait Davenport of Benton, KY is the defending champion of the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Clayhill Motorsports race. The victory last year was Davenport’s first and only series career win and it propelled him to finishing third in the 2013 series point standings. In seven starts this season, Davenport has three top ten finishes.

The defending NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN has a healthy point lead going into the No Till 50 over Mack McCarter of Sevierville, TN in the battle for the $20,000 National Championship. Johnson has 1,264 points with five wins, eight top five finishes, 12 top ten finishes and one fast time award in 15 races.

McCarter became a new father on July 11 and is second in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series standings with 1,158 points, 106 points behind Johnson. There are still eight races left in the 2014 season, and McCarter has what it takes to close back up to the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee. In 15 starts, McCarter has seven top five finishes and ten top ten finishes.

“It’s nice to have a big point lead, but I’ve learned through the years that’s no guarantee that you’re going to win a championship because we still have a lot of racing to do, and anything can happen,” Johnson said. “I’m not counting on anything yet because I could fall in the shop and break my leg, or I could choke on a chicken bone.”

It’s not known if McCarter has sent Johnson a bucket of fried chicken in the last few days.

Chris Noah of Rainbow City, AL is beginning to put together a productive season, as he is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point standings and he also leads the Rookie of the Year point standings. In 15 starts, Noah has four top five finishes and eight top ten finishes.

Michael Blount of Sumrall, MS has had perfect attendance this season at all 15 races and is fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series standings with 846 points. The battle for the fourth spot in the point standings is tight with just 42 points separating fourth through seventh.

Walker Arthur of Forest, VA is fifth in the standings with 838 points after one win, four top five finishes, six top ten finishes and one fast time award in 11 races. Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS is sixth in the points chase with 810 points after four top five finishes and seven top ten finishes in ten races. Josh Adkins of Talladega, AL is seventh with 804 points after three top five finishes and eight top ten finishes in 12 races.

Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS is eighth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series standings with 764 points after one win, one top five finish and six top ten finishes in 11 races. Marcus Minga of Shannon, MS used a top ten finish at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS on July 6 to move up to the ninth spot with 708 points and Edge rounds out the top ten with 684 points.

Other NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series regulars expected for the $3,000-to-win No Till 50 this Saturday night at Clayhill Motorsports are Jimmy Elliott of Cleveland, TN, two-time winner this season Justin McRee of Woodstock, AL, Ronald Dunn of Corinth, MS, Mike Palasini Jr. of Leland, MS, and many more.

The local contingent of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model favorites will be led by eight-time weekly series winner Ashley Newman of Ripley, TN, five-time WRS winner Bronson Berry of Huntingdon, TN, three-time WRS winner Ronnie Cooper of McKenzie, TN, Jimmy Halford of Atwood, TN, and Ben Garner of Greenfield, TN.

This Saturday night, the pit gate opens at 4 p.m. NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Registration and Pre-Race Technical Inspection will be from 4:30 p.m. to 6:50 p.m. The Drivers Meeting is set for 6:50 p.m., with Hot Laps at 7 p.m. and Racing is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
