4th Annual Larry Phillips Memorial Up Next For M.A.R.S.

Locust Grove, AR (9/19/06) - The Mid America Racing Series will visit the I-44 Speedway in Lebanon, Missouri on Friday and Saturday, September 22 nd – 23 rd for the 4th Annual Larry Phillips Memorial Fall Shootout. The event will pay $10,000 to win and $1,000 to start.

With only a pair of events remaining in the 2006 season, Bill Frye (Arkansas) has jumped out to a commanding lead over defending M.A.R.S. Champion, Terry Phillips (Missouri). Frye is making the bid for his fourth M.A.R.S. tour crown. Jeff Taylor (Arkansas) currently sits comfortably in the third position in points. The fourth through eighth positions in points are unbelievably close with only 50 points separating the five positions. Steve Rushin Missouri), Jeff Floyd (Arkansas), Justin Wells (Missouri), Billy James (Missouri), and Will Vaught currently make up the fourth through eighth positions. Dane Dacus (Tennessee) and Joey Mack (Missouri) round out the top ten in the latest series points.

Other M.A.R.S. touring drivers expected for this weekend include Jordan Jones (Arkansas), Brandon McCormick (Missouri), Jack Sullivan (Arkansas), Wendell Wallace (Arkansas) and many more.

Some of the U.M.P. National drivers are also expected to be on hand to try and claim the $10,000 top prize.

On Friday, September 22 nd, a pill draw will be held for the heat races. The top twenty drivers in passing points from the heat races will lock into a mini feature event that will be held on Friday night. The top ten finishers from the mini feature event will lock into the top ten starting positions for Saturday night’s $10,000 to win feature event. The drivers, who finish in positions 11 – 20 in Friday night’s feature will be lined up at the front of the b-mains on Saturday night. Any driver, who did not qualify for Friday night’s feature will line up in the b-mains behind the 11 – 20 place finishers from Friday night. The number of b-mains that will be held will be dependant on the number of entries. Starting positions 11-20 for Saturday night’s main event will be made up of the b-main transfers. Two M.A.R.S. provisionals may be added to the rear of Saturday night’s a-feature only.

Mid America Racing Series drivers will be awarded with show-up points on Friday night, and on Saturday night M.A.R.S. drivers will be awarded with points depending on their finishing position in the feature event.
