4x4 Bug Questions

Steve "Duck" LaGarce
I just picked up this lil 4x4 Bug and had some questions. It was supposed to built by a guy down around farmington. Has anybody seen this vehicle or know anything about it? I know it has a 4.3 v6 on a modified blazer frame but thats about it. If you have seen it around or know anything about it any info would be great. The person I got it from is in hiding and wont return my calls.

bring it down the place I go to has about 9 diff holes to play in...

as far as the info ...no problem... does this thing have disk brake front end or drums? also is it a automatic? since it has a carb then it will have the old od automatic (700r) not the 46le .. good thing is if the motor goes a v8 will bolt right to the tranny... tranny goes any turbo 350 will bolt to the v-6
or a stick ... so with the chevy componets you got a pretty cheap rig to fix if it breaks unlike my ford or dodges... does it have a married t-case or a divoced t-case...(2 or 3 driveshafts) what size ground hawg tires are them?

It has 4 wheel disc brakes, Auto trans, the pan is square with corner notched and has 13 bolts. My research says it is a th350 but im not positive. I wish I knew because it is bad and needs replaced. The trans will go in reverse and move but it won't move in drive, so I lost drive. The drive line has one drive shaft for front and one drive shaft for rear. As for the Carb, they made a makeshift adapter for a carb to bolt on the TBI intake. I'd like to replace it with a new adapter and a holley 350 or 500. It has a Rochester single barrel now. As for the tires they are 38's.

You have a pretty cool ride there. I have seen some 4 barrel intakes for the 4.3 for a quadrajet carb as well as some factory headers for them. Some of the older dana 44 fronts had a larger lock out hub. 1/2 bolts on the diff cover. 9/16 on dana 60 cover. On the trans I have heard of people using a 2wd 350 turbo. Remove the tail housing and cut off i believe 3/4 inch of tail shaft on the 6 inch tail. Not the 9 inch tailshaft. I know we have an intake at the salvage yard for the 4 barrel and maybe the headers and trans . Sweeney Auto Salvage in park hills mo. (573)734-6081.

Sweeney, Thanks for the info. As for the intake, are they different for different year 4.3's? I have no idea what year the engine is and have looked high and low for casting numbers on the block and cant find anything. However the engine is in a little bug and there isnt alot of room to get a great look. lol

YEAH the front end has external lockouts... if its a turbo 350 then any old 70'to 80' chevy 4x4 tranny will work... plus they are cheep to rebuild... by the sounds of it you have a early 4.3 if it don't havr vortec on the valve covers then its a pre 94 motor... my 94 has a vortec my 89 justa old 4.3 the first 4.3 was carburated motors should be able to find some goodies for it... also I not quite shure what will work of the 2.8 on these...

This 4x4 Bug is FOR SALE. Everything is the same with it except my attempt to paint it lime green failed. The paint didnt stick to good. Its a MUD BUG!

I will take $1000 for it or trade for a vintage dirt car.
