Prestigious Event Brings Nation’s Best to Terre Haute Action Track
USAC National Midget Series’ drivers get one chance this season to claim a victory at the Action Track. The CLABBER GIRL HUT 100 presented by First Financial Bank and Terre Haute Convention & Visitor’s Bureau on Saturday, August 20th features the tradition of this 54th annual event and the up- and-coming drivers in the United States Auto Club.
One of those drivers, Josh Wise a Riverside, Ca. native and driver for Tony Stewart Racing, leads the series by less than 100 points. Tightening the lead, Jerry Coons, Jr. of Tucson, AZ hopes to capitalize on his past performances at the Action Track. Coons, Jr. has been the fastest qualifier in the past two HUT 100 events. Not only are these guys chasing a win, they’re chasing a national series championship as well.
These drivers and many others are hoping to make the unique 33-car field lined up 3 abreast to take the green flag, this is sure to add to the excitement of this historic 100- lap event.
Midget racing dates back to the 1930’s, and USAC Midget racing has been a proving ground for some of the nation’s great racing talent. Former National Midget Series standouts Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Billy Boat, Ryan Newman, Jason Leffler and John Andretti have turned a spotlight on the series as a source of racing talent. Other notable drivers who have made their way through the USAC Midget ranks include A. J. Foyt, Mario Andretti, Johnny Rutherford, Parnelli Jones and Mel Kenyon. UMP Modified drivers have been fiercely competitive this season, with the points leader changing with every feature. Brian Shaw took back the lead after the last event, but can he hold onto it?! This will be a feature not to miss.
