Drove the car on Sat. parked it went out Sun. lights on dash come on but when I turn the key to start nothing, no clicking no ticking no nothin. Battery tests good, have power going to starter so I took starter off to get checked the place said it was bad so I replaced the starter still nothing. This is a manual so I was able to push start it so I no it will run. All fuses inside and under the hood look fine. Any help? Thanks, Brian (2.2 engine)

check the switch by the cluch pedal. if that failed or came partialy unpluged it will not crank. to see if it is failed unplug it and run an ohms test on it.

I found the problem, I started checking wires with a light tester @ the starter and found a wire that was a sometimer, some times it would have power somtimes not so I traced it down like a hound and found it had been rubbing close to another housing since 98 and finally gave up. So a bare wire @ the starter solinoid was the problem. Thanks dozer I actually bypassed that switch just to eliminate it. Glad it was not the starter that thing for this little car was 135.00!!

05 automatic

I'm actually having the same problem with a05 cav. Its an automatic. Battery says good but wont start. Even while on charger. It will start with my jumper box but then wont Starr when u take it off. And now when u try and start it all lights on the dash flash and the darn trunk pops open! !! Plz help!?

When I first had the problem almost all searches said somthing about the theft systems on the Cavs. That was not my case but if you have one you may look into it. These cars are so hard to track down the problem these days.

Definitely the theft system considering that's the only light that comes on now when turn the key.. wat is the fix to this problem?

on the 2005, sounds like a power or ground distribution issue. if you grounded your jumper box to something other than the bat, I'd check the ground side.... Dash lights flashing and trunk popping open, is a low voltage issue most likely. Some cavaliers used to ground the body on the bat tray, i have fixed a few by relocating the ground to somewhere else on the body, because the spotwelds holding the bat tray had come loose, so I bolted it in place and relocated the ground.... Also sometimes where the ground cable attaches to the bell housing the cable end comes off the cable, and will eventually burn up the body ground.... IF it were a theft deterent issue you'd have all dash lights and no flashing lights other than theft light. So, in short, I'd first fix my low voltage issue first before worrying about theft issues You can google the relearn procedure for the key if neccessary, I believe it would be the 30 min relearn procedure. I always hook up a bat charger so the bat won't go dead after 30 min of key on whilst relearn is taking place....Good luck, Greg

The jumper was grounded to battery. And when the chargers hooked up all dash lights light up. But with nothing hooked there's nothing but the theft system light on

with no charger hooked up, are the lights bright? if not check connections at bat for cleanliness, and try a different battery. have had them checked good on top post but not on side post if it's dual terminal bat. put in new bat and if that doesn't work, breakout the voltmeter good luck, Greg
