Columbus, MS (1/22/09) – Due to a forecast for wet, cold, and windy conditions, this weekend, the 9th running of the Carl Hogan Honda Winter Classic at Columbus Speedway has been postponed until Saturday, January 31st.

Track promoter, Johnny Stokes, cited that “We don’t want to risk wasting everyone’s time and money this weekend. Even if we dodged the rain and got to race, the conditions would be far less than favorable with forecasted lows below freezing with windy conditions on Saturday night. We’ll just push everything back a week, and try it next weekend.

The Winter Classic will be highlighted by four earth-shattering divisions in action including Super Late Models, the NeSmith Late Model National Series, Open Wheel Modifieds, and Street Stocks.

The 2008 edition of the event drew over 140 race cars from across the Southeast and Midwest, and this year’s event looks to be even bigger!

The Super Late Models will be competing in a 40-lap main event paying $3,000 to win and $200 to start. The NeSmith Late Model Series will be competing in another 40-lap main with $2,500 going to the winner and $200 to start in their second point’s race of the year. The Open Wheel Modifieds will have their $1,000 to win/$50 to start championship with a 20-lap main. The Street Stocks will have a 15-lap $300 to win/$30 to start main event to conclude the event. Action is slated to get underway at 2pm.

There will also be an open practice session on Friday evening, January 30th from 5pm until 8pm.

On Saturday, January 31st, grandstand admission will be $20 with pit passes $30. Pit passes for Friday night’s practice are $15 with free grandstand admission.

Complete event information is available on the online Winter Classic flyer at www.columbusspeedway.net .

For more information, please call Johnny Stokes at 662-574-2572.

The 2008 Columbus Speedway Night of Champions Point’s Banquet will also be moved back a week to Saturday, February 7th at 7pm at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Dinner, awards, and an all-around good time are on tap for the event. Tickets are $20 per person, and attendees are asked to please RSVP to Johnny Stokes at 662-574-2572.

Fans and drivers should also make note the 2009 racing schedule is pretty much complete with the exception of some minor changes. It is on the schedule link at www.columbusspeedway.net . The schedule offers virtually everything a race fan could want by keeping a fresh combination of top drivers from all over the south and the country coming to Columbus, Mississippi to compete with the best drivers in the area throughout the season.

A sampling of the upcoming schedule will include the month of March. The Bullring will be roaring early when the days are still short and traction is still high. It’s hammer down time on the wild 3/10’s mile high banked clay oval in the month of March with the season opener featuring a Weekly Series Event on Saturday, March 7th. The action really kicks into high gear with the 8th Annual Rebel Challenge weekend on March 13th and 14th.

The schedule for March is as follows:
7-Mar Weekly Racing Series Event
13-Mar 8th Annual Brown Engineering Rebel Challenge
14-Mar 8th Annual Brown Engineering Rebel Challenge
