I wish I could stop there and leave this as a thankful post,
We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to the promoter and Allied Officials for making every effort to let us know that the starting positions were increased for the Late Model feature event.
During the drivers meeting it was announced that eighteen cars would start the feature. We will take four cars from the four heats and two cars from the semi-feature. This was announced again while the races were taking place and repeated several times by the announcer, “we are only transferring TWO cars from the semi-feature. Some will say that we did not qualify through the earlier race and therefore did not “qualify” for the feature. We can accept the fact that we missed the set-up for the heat and semi we were very dejected to have to sit out this event. We approached the person that is in charge of staging the cars for each race and asked how the alternate procedure would come into play. It was stated, “that if all EIGHTEEN cars make the call then no alternates would be called”. We even checked the line-up board for changes and noticed we were still listed as the second alternate. We however were not prepared for an unannounced change in the amount of cars stating the feature. It was quite a shock to hear our name called over the PA that we were starting in the last row.
How could that have happened?? So as we are running to the car and trying to get to the track we were not given any time to get out onto the track, how much extra time would another caution lap have taken?? You would think that if there were a change to the race format the officials would know. When we ran down to the judges stand and approached the same person that gave us the information about the eighteen car starting lineup they basically turned their back to us, granted the race was getting ready to start and they were helping score the event. However, the reason for our approach was VERY clear and they could have waited already knowing they had done us wrong. During the first caution flag we were approached by this person and was told we needed to talk with Stan. As we expressed our displeasure of the situation we were told it was not their fault, “you need to talk to Stan”.
I was under the impression that the promoter but on the show and the officials ran the event. Does that mean that the promoter made a decision and did not let the officials know that changes had been made?? If that is their argument then how did the announcer know to announce the two cars in the last row, especially since only one of them was on the racetrack?? Doesn’t the line-up come from the officials?? Since we did not make the call why wasn’t the 13 of Kiefer given the starting position?? No matter what angle we look at things never add up. In the twenty plus years that we have loyally supported this venue, we have never asked for any special treatment, but you would think that if something changed someone would notify all parties affected by the decision. It is just another one of those situations that arose that we always seem to be caught on the short end.
We would again like to thank the promoter and Allied Officials involved for running such a well-rounded event. Congratulations to all drivers for putting on a good show.
