Discussion: 2014 RULE CHANGES FOR USMTS?

Most drivers agreed that any major rule change makes for an increase in expenses. We like where we are at with our rules package right now, so few changes are in place for 2014. We talked to a driver that has raced his two spec motors since we started the spec option in 2006. He said that he freshens them each year for $3,500 and that’s it.. We had a nice talk with Dick Boyer from PBM Performance Products at the PRI trade show and he claims he can still build an engine that will win with the USMTS for $10,000 or less. So the question becomes, are the teams that spend $25,000 or more on engines spending money that doesn’t need to be spent? Are the guys that win consistently “buying” their wins or are they maybe, just maybe, a little harder working and/or a little more talented than the guy who finished second? Jeremy Payne went and won the IMCA Modified race in Las Vegas again last month, and this time he was using the same “uncheatable” crate engine as just about everybody else in the field. How in the world do he and Phillips dominate this race every year? Are they cheating?

Doubtful. You know darn good and well that if either of them could be disqualified they would be in a heartbeat. Maybe, just maybe, these guys are just that good at what they do? We think so. Give us a call and let us know what you are thinking about the USMTS rules. Whether you race for a living or race because you love it, we’re always open to your suggestions and ideas. ***By the way, the King of America on March 27-29 in southeast Kansas, the USRA Nationals (Lakeside Speedway) and Sooner Showdown (Salina High banks, OK) events in October and the November Winter Nationals event which moves to Ark-La-Tex Speedway this year are USMTS/USRA co-sanction events. Rules are pretty much the same except an 8000 chip rule will be in effect at these shows.
