Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws 30th Anniversary Celebration: Catching up with Doug Wolfgang

As part of the 30th Anniversary of the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series celebration, a number of different individual involved in the inaugural season of 1978 will be highlighted over the course of the 2008 campaign in a series entitled “Catching up with.”

Drivers, car owners, promoters and crew members who were instrumental in helping the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series become what it is today will also stop by a number of races and tracks throughout the season, to visit with fans and share their memories of the 1978 season, as they traveled from coast-to-coast with the newly formed series.

This week, Hall of Fame driver Doug Wolfgang will be featured. The South Dakota native was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 2003. He is also a member of the Knoxville Raceway Hall of Fame and the South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame. He won 107 A-Feature events in his career with the World of Outlaws, which is four-best all-time. In addition to this, he won hundreds of other races from coast-to-coast.

Wolfgang won his first career Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series A-Feature at Skagit Speedway in Washington in the series inaugural season of 1978, with his last win with the series coming at Big H Speedway in Texas in 1992. He won a career-best 20 A-Feature events with the series in 1981 and again in 1989.

Among the wins in his career are: five triumphs in the Knoxville Nationals, three victories in the Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway, two consecutive victories in the Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway in Washington and a win at the Gold Cup Race of Champions in California. He also won twice at the famed New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse.
