BOONE, Iowa (June 30) – The new associate sponsor for the 30th annual event will have a very high profile presence at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals.
The United States Air Force becomes title sponsor of the Fan Zone, on the south side of the main grandstand, throughout the week of the Sept. 3-8 Super Nationals at Boone Speedway.
Equally of note, a flyover is in the planning stages during the playing of the National Anthem on Saturday night.
“This is as much an awareness campaign as recruitment,” explained Technical Sergeant David McCarrison, stationed with the 343rd Squadron at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Neb. “A lot of demographics attend Super Nationals – kids, teenagers and parents – and this is one way we can get the word out about careers in the Air Force.”
The X-1 Super Car, a Ford Mustang tricked out by a team of airmen with help from Galpin Auto Sports, will be on display during the week. In addition to an interior that replicates a cockpit and an ejection seat from a F-16 jet fighter, the X-1 comes equipped with all the bells and whistles to help showcase Air Force ingenuity and state of the art technology.
Accompanying the Super Car is a 38-foot trailer with interactive kiosks that will allow race fans to learn more about the Air Force and career opportunities in the USAF.
“Super Nationals also gives us the opportunity to do some public relations,” Sergeant McCarrison said. “It’s a week when we can let taxpayers know how their money is being spent.”
Activities in the Air Force Fan Zone during Super Nationals also include autograph sessions, race car displays and Race of Champions qualifier card games.
The IMCA souvenir trailer, race car simulator and jet dryer will be located nearby as well.
"Partnering with the United States Air Force is quite an honor and we plan on doing everything we can to present an event that warrants their support,” IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder said. “We've been planning some pretty special elements unique to the IMCA Super Nationals for a while now and I am excited to unveil them in Boone."
