Am I wrong or can't you add a custom avatar anymore?

I was trying to change my avatar and the only thing it would allow me to change to was one of those stupid pre-made ones. It didn't show a way of downloading a new one. Is that right or am I just overlooking where it is done now?
 
It has always been on for REGISTERED USERS.

Millsey, you are a MODERATOR, I had never turned it on for them. It is on now.

well hell i'm trying to add a custom one and it wont let me. it says it's too large, and i made the pic 50 by 50 pixels and it's still sayin it's too large. so what the hell?
 
Not only do they need to be 50 x 50 pixels, the file also has to be under 20kb in physical size. It also must be saved as a .jpg .gif or .png file.
 
I know what you mean, I'm having a heck of a time getting it to work. I was down to 40 pixels at 50 dpi and it was STILL TO BIG...

The premade ones don't look so bad after all!!!
 
I've got all kinds of programs to reduce the size, shape, color, etc., but for some reason that one was a problem.. The reason I did it in B@W was because it worked so much easier and I looked SO GOOD.... LOL!
