ARCA Trucks, Sportsman Run as Part of Last Weekend of Illinois State Fair

The ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series returns to the Illinois State Fair on Saturday August 18 for he Best Western Classic-Lincoln Welders 50 as part of the Tony Bettenhausen 100 day at the fair while the popular Sportsman Challenge comes back for it’s 14th running on the Sunday the 19th in conjunction with the Allen Crowe 100.

Defending ARCA Truck race winner Norm Weaver of Clarksburg, West Virginia is expected to return to defend his race win after securing a popular and emotional win at Springfield in 2006. Weaver held off Paul Hahn and Nick Gulatta by a few feet to win by less than half a second last year. Both Gulatta and Hahn are expected to return as well, as is veteran Tully Esterline and former series champ Bill Withers. Withers currently leads the
2007 ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series chase followed by defending series champion Hahn, Gulatta, two-time champ Robbin Slaughter and Steve Cronenwett. Withers won the most recent ARCA Truck race on the dirt at Middlebourne, West Virginia.

Justin Marks, ARCA RE/MAX Series rookie is currently the only driver slated to run both the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Race and the Allen Crowe 100 the next day. Marks, of Rocklin, California is a teammate to Norm Weaver on the Dan Cava Toyota team and one of 22 entries posted for the Lincoln Welders 50 by the ARCA Truck Series.

On Sunday August 19 the popular Sportsman Natonals take to the track. New Berlin’s Steve Sheppard Jr is a three-time and defending winner of the Sportsman event taking the lead on lap 7 from Gary Fox last year and never looking back. He is expected to return for 2007 as is five time Sportsman winner Wes O’Dell of Springfield. Four qualifying races were held around Central Illinois, the first at Macon on June 23 was rained out, with others on July 7 at Macon Speedway, July 21 at Fairbury and again at Macon July 28.
Greg Kimmons of Pleasant Plains, Jeff Graham of Stonington, Phil Moreland of Assumption and Scott Landes of Taylorville are among those already qualified for the 14th Sportsman Nationals. The remainder of the field will be filled out if needed via a semi feature on the 19th.

Two drivers who normally run the Sportsman Nationals are slated for duty in the Allen Crowe 100 as well, 5 time Sportsman champ Wes O'Dell of Springfield drives for Bill Venturini and Mark Littleton of Arenzville looks to make his ARCA debut.
