ASCS Gulf South and Coastal Regions Square Off This Weekend

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (June 18, 2007) – In a weekend featuring a pair of showdowns, the American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region takes on the new ASCS Coastal Region in a pair of events in southeast Texas.



On Friday night, the two Regions face off at Motorama Speedway in Beaumont, TX. Then on Saturday night, round two of the Gulf South vs. Coastal Region showdown takes place at Houston Raceway Park in Baytown, TX.



With five of eight events rained out thus far in 2007 for the ASCS Gulf South Region, Johnny Miller of Burleson, TX, holds the early series point lead by just twelve points over Brandon Berryman, with others in the top five including Skip Wilson, Ray Allen Kulhanek and Greg Rilat.



A winner of three of seven ASCS Coastal Region events, Michael Dupuy of Amite, LA, carries a 44-point lead in the Coastal points race over Michael Herrington into the weekend. The balance of the ASCS Coastal Region top five includes Robert Casada, Timmy Thrash and Todd Fayard.



Friday's action at Motorama Speedway goes green at 8:00 p.m., with Saturday's card at Houston Raceway Park set to fire off at 7:00 p.m.

The 2007 slate for the ASCS Gulf South Region consists of 24 events at ten different tracks throughout Louisiana and Texas as well a single event in Mississippi.



The ASCS Coastal Region is slated to contest 21 events at 13 different tracks throughout Mississippi and the surrounding area including portions of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Texas.


The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With 13 different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
