Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (June 1, 2007) – The inaugural slate for the American Sprint Car Series Mid-Atlantic Region has been scaled back following this week's announcement that Susquehanna Speedway Park has streamlined its 2007 schedule due to a soft local economy.

With a handful of events already in the books, including two Regional events, two Local events and last week's O'Reilly ASCoT National event, all remaining ASCS events at Susquehanna Speedway Park in Newberrytown, PA, have been removed from the schedule with the exception of the September 2 Mid-Atlantic Regional event.

The four ASCS Regional and Local events at Susquehanna Speedway Park attracted an average of 18 cars with last week's O'Reilly ASCoT event drawing 31 entries.

"We appreciate Todd Fisher and the staff at Susquehanna Speedway Park for going out on a limb and giving the ASCS Mid-Atlantic Region a place to race," commented ASCS President and founder Emmett Hahn. "But I also told Todd that he didn't need to let Sprint Cars break him or the track, and by that I mean any kind of Sprint Cars whether it be 410's, 358's, ASCS or whatever. It's a business decision and Todd has to do what's right for the future of Susquehanna Speedway Park."

With the ASCS Mid-Atlantic Region no longer a regular fixture at Susquehanna Speedway Park, remaining events for the series include showdowns versus the ASCS Patriots at Penn-Can Speedway in Susquehanna, PA, on June 8 and August 17 and at Black Rock Speedway in Dundee, NY, on August 11 along with the September 2 season finale at Susquehanna Speedway Park.

"This isn't the end of the ASCS Mid-Atlantic Region by any means," Hahn stated. "We'll look at other options and other opportunities and do what's best for the drivers, associated tracks and the series in the long-term."

Pat Cannon captured the first ASCS Mid-Atlantic win on April 22, before Lucas Wolfe reeled off back-to-back wins on April 29 and May 6. Wayne Johnson topped a Local event on May 20 before Jason Johnson took the ASCS National win at SSP last Thursday night.

In addition to the Susquehanna Speedway Park events, the ASCS Mid-Atlantic Region also took part in the O'Reilly ASCoT National events at Black Rock Speedway in Dundee, NY, on May 18-19 and Virginia Motor Speedway this past weekend.

George Suprick of Clarks Summit, PA, holds a six-point lead over Lumberton, New Jersey's Tim Hogue in ASCS Mid-Atlantic Regional points, with 13-year-old Coleman Gulick of Binghamton, NY, just another 16 points back in third.
