TUCSON, AZ — Aug. 28, 2008 — The 2008 Barnett Harley DIRTcar Modified Touring Series will come to an end in dramatic fashion this weekend (Aug. 30-31) at USA Raceway Park.

A mere 24 points separates the top-five drivers in the points standings entering the holiday weekend doubleheader at the three-eighths-mile oval, which will host complete programs topped by 30-lap features on both Saturday and Sunday night.

Anthony Madrid of Phoenix, Ariz., will carry a precarious points lead into the weekend. The 32-year-old standout who calls Phoenix’s Manzanita Speedway home has a mere six-point edge (223-217) over Jay Foster, another Phoenix product who is the reigning DIRTcar Modified champion at Canyon Speedway in Peoria, Ariz.

Jason Noll of Mesa, Ariz., sits third in the Barnet Harley DIRTcar Modified Touring Series points standings (-13 points). R.C. Whitwell of Tucson, Ariz., is 16 points out of the lead in fourth place and New Mexico’s Scott Logston is 24 points behind in fifth.

Many eyes will be on Whitwell, who hopes his knowledge of the USA Raceway Park layout will work to his advantage. He has won two of the last four Barnett Harley DIRTcar Modified Touring Series events held at his hometrack.

“The Barnett Harley DIRTcar Modified Touring Series is setting up for a spectacular finish at USA Raceway Park,” said Chris Morgan, who oversees the series as the director of the DIRTcar Racing Western Region. “Fans love a points battle that goes right down to the wire and they’re going to get that this weekend.”

A minimum of $15,000 in points-fund cash will be divided among the top 20 in the final Barnett Harley DIRTcar Modified Touring Series points standings. Barnett Harley-Davidson and Barnett Auto Sales are the tour’s primary backers, with associate sponsors including Bilstein Shocks, Bob Small Racing Products, Braswell Carburetion, Marsh Racing Wheels, MSD Ignitions, Premiere Graphics and Gat Racing Products, which presents a Hard Charger Award at each event.

The Barnett Harley DIRTcar Modified Touring Series showcases the best DIRTcar Modified teams from Arizona, New Mexico and West Texas. The tour, which is scheduled to number eight points races this season, visits all the major Barnett H-D DIRTcar Modified Series weekly tracks.

The blockbuster weekend at USA Raceway Park will boast plenty of off-track excitement as well. Live music by the band ‘Beat The Monkeys’ is set to follow Saturday night’s racing program, and Sunday’s ‘Rockin Ladies’ Night with Mary Kay’ will conclude with music by ‘Mikey & The Maniacs.’

Pit gates are scheduled to open at 3:30 p.m. and the front gates at 5 p.m. each day. A drivers’ meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. each evening, with racing to get the green flag at 7 p.m.
